Grooved Rim Patents (Class 152/DIG17)
  • Patent number: 5044413
Abstract: The present invention relates to a radial tire and a radial tire-rim assembly. The radial tire (1) has a pair of beads (2), each bead having a bead core (3) and a bead apex (5), a carcass (4), with both edges thereof folded back around said bead core and fastened to said bead core, a tread (6), a belt layer (7), and an aspect ratio smaller than 60%. The tread is wider (in the axial direction) than the maximum width of said carcass and the edges of said tread are positioned within a range of 50-100% of the height of the cross-section of the carcass. This structure provides the tire side with rigidity and permits the tread to deform so that it supports the weight of the car and runs safely even when the tire pressure is decreased. The radial tire-rim assembly is characterized in that the bead of the radial tire has a toe (9) extending inward (in the radial direction of the tire) and is further provided with a hump groove (10).

  • Patent number: 4393913
Abstract: In many designs, a tire (14) of a wheel (10) is inadequately restrained with respect to a tire supporting rim assembly (12) of the wheel. Movement of the tire (14) with respect to the rim assembly (12) results in a wastage of energy. In the present invention a wheel assembly (10) has a rim assembly (12) and a tire (14) mounted on the rim assembly (12). The rim assembly (12) has an annular elastic element (22) affixed thereto for increasing the coefficient of friction between said rim assembly (12) and the tire (14).

  • Patent number: 4325422
Abstract: A pneumatic tire and wheel rim assembly is disclosed in which the rim bead seats are defined by grooves having radially directed side portions which retain the associated tire bead against movement in an axial direction and each rim bead seat includes means in engagement with the tire bead to restrict rotation of the tire bead relative to the bead seat. Preferably said means comprises a plurality of projections formed integrally with part or all of the grooves which engage the associated tire bead to restrict rotation. Each projection may comprise a circumferentially extending rib or a tooth.

  • Patent number: 4144922
Abstract: A wheel rim assembly comprising a generally cylindrical rim base and a flange ring including a bead seat retained at one axial end of the rim base by a split locking ring. A T-shaped lug on the flange ring captures the ends of the locking ring in a corresponding groove on the rim base and prevents removal of the locking and flange rings when a tire mounted on the wheel rim is inflated. Circumferential grooves on the inside surface of the tire bead seat cooperate with an annular seal in the rim base to prevent inflation of a tire mounted on the wheel rim when the flange ring and bead seat are improperly positioned thereon.
