Abstract: Sustainable composite materials for interior spaces and related methods of manufacture are provided. In one aspect of the invention, the sustainable composite materials include a load-bearing stud. The load-bearing stud includes a plurality of woven burlap layers impregnated with a magnesium oxide resin. The load-bearing stud is formed by creasing a woven burlap sheet to form multiple foldable panels, wetting the foldable panels with a curable resin, layering the foldable panels to achieve a multi-layered prepreg, pressing the multi-layered prepreg to distribute the resin therethrough, compacting the multi-layered prepreg within a mold cavity having the exterior shape of the load-bearing stud, and curing the multi-layered prepreg, wherein the resin includes a mixture of mono-potassium phosphate and magnesium oxide. The load-bearing stud provides a lightweight, dimensionally stable, and environmentally-friendly composite structure to replace lumber studs and metal studs in building constructions.

  • Patent number: 8814555
Abstract: The drywall tapering device has a drive roller and two idler rollers extending from the front face of a frame in a triangular configuration with the drive roller above the idler rollers. The drive roller has an annular groove defined around its base and tapers in diameter from wide to narrow as the roller extends from the base to its free end. The butt end of a drywall panel is supported against an elongate track. The frame is clamped over the butt end and the track, a spring-biased adjustment screw assembly being used to clamp the drive roller against the butt end with the track engaging the groove. A drill grips a mandrel extending from the drive roller and causes the drive roller to rotate and ride along the track, forming a tapered recess in the butt end of the drywall, the idler rollers following below the track.

  • Patent number: 6692607
Abstract: Molten polymers are forced into T dies combined to form a multiple T die, the molten polymers are extruded through the T dies as monolayers. The monolayers extruded through the T dies are superposed and laminated outside the multiple T die while the polymers are in a molten or semi-molten state to form a intermediate molten multilayer. The multiple T die is advanced into a space between an open top half mold and a bottom half mold of a compression mold to deliver the intermediate multilayer onto the bottom half mold. The intermediate multilayer is cut to a predetermined length on the bottom half mold, and is processed for compression molding in the compression mold to form a multilayer article. A molding cycle for molding the multilayer article is carried out automatically at a remarkably improved manufacturing efficiency.

  • Patent number: 6394440
Abstract: A platform is held atop a vertically moveable dual position leveling base by three draw screws, three push screws, and three spring-loaded pins. The leveling base is configured to secure and orient the platform such that an upper surface of the platform is substantially horizontal with allowance for adjustments in each of two positions. The platform is pushed upwardly relative to the base by the spring-loaded pins. The orientation of the platform in one position is adjusted by the three draw screws, which pull the platform down against the upward force of the spring-loaded pins. The base also has an upper position in which the platform is pressed into sealing engagement with a lower mating surface of a chamber. Three adjustable push screws provide the desired platform orientation by limiting the movement of the platform towards the base.
