Abstract: A method of manufacturing a laminate particularly adapted for bedding, padding upholstering and like applications by feeding an indeterminate length of a first material along a predetermined first path of travel from a source of the first material to a downstream assembly area. Feeding an indeterminate length of second material along a predetermined second path of travel from a source of the second material to the downstream assembly area. Depositing a multiplicity of substantially yieldable cushioning materials upon an upper surface of one of the first and second indeterminate lengths of material during the feeding thereof between the respective sources and the assembly area. Thereafter, sandwiching the cushioning materials between the indeterminate lengths of first and second materials to form a laminate therefrom, and rolling the laminate into a roll. The cushioning materials are foam latex and/or down and the first and second lengths of material are polyester fiber material and/or convoluted foam.

  • Patent number: 5632843
Abstract: A heat-shrinkable, multilayer film suitable for use in fabricating bags for packaging primal and sub-primal meat cuts and processed meats. The multilayer film has a first outer layer of a first ethylene-vinyl acetate copolymer, a core layer of a barrier film comprising a polyvinylidene chloride copolymer, and a second outer layer of a second ethylene-vinyl acetate copolymer. The multilayer film is preferably made by co-extrusion of the layers, and then it is biaxially stretched. After biaxial stretching, the multilayer film is irradiated to a dosage level of between 1 megarad and 5 megarads and heat-sealed in the form of a bag. The bag has improved toughness properties and heat-sealing characteristics.

  • Patent number: 5290391
Abstract: An apparatus and a method for attaching articles to a plastic bag wall and particularly for attaching flat articles, such as coupons, cards, packets, samples, etc., to an inside wall of a panel of the bag and at different locations thereon. The articles are attached by feeding a bag-forming film sheet of plastic material to an article insertion station where the plastic sheet passes about a nip roll. An article transfer mechanism transfers articles from a discharge end of one or more supply magazines to two or more support surfaces at an article insertion station. These support surfaces are aligned with distinct sections of the bag-forming film sheet. An attaching film sheet is fed over a support roll which is in frictional rotational contact with the nip roll with the attaching film sheet aligned over the distinct sections of the bag-forming film sheet.

Abstract: An apparatus for producing items in selected configurations and a system, and method for controlling the same. More particularly, an apparatus for producing mail pieces and a system and method for controlling it to produce mail pieces in a variety of configurations are disclosed. The apparatus includes a laser printer and folding sealing apparatus controlled by a data processor. The folder sealer apparatus combines sheets printed by the laser printer with pre-printed sheets and envelope forms, which also may be printed by the laser printer or may be windowed envelopes, folds the sheets as necessary and folds and seals the envelope form about the folded sheets to produce a mail piece. A user inputs a configuration for the mail piece which is translated by the data processor into a data structure and transmitted to the controller of the folder sealer apparatus.

  • Patent number: 4510010
Abstract: A press, carried by a first table and having punch and die components, receives a rectangular filler sheet and forms a lateral accordian fold sheet. The accordian fold sheet is lifted from the press by transfer means and placed upon an envelope sheet overlaying a second table. Hinged panels carried by the second table fold the envelope sheet over the accordian fold sheet, forming a rigid compartmentalized panel having an opening along a longitudinal edge. The second table, with the opening upright, moves to a position under a receptacle from which granular loose fill material is entered into the compartments through the opening. Subsequently, flaps extending along the panels move to further fold the envelope sheet and close the opening.

  • Patent number: 4481063
Abstract: This insulation applicator applies electrical insulation to a thin conductive strap that is attached to and extends transversely of wire being wound into a coil. The applicator comprises two applicator segments between which is a feed passage through which two strips of insulation are fed. The segments are moved transversely of the wire from a first position at one side of the wire to a second position at the other side, thus introducing the strap into the feed passage. Holding means releasably holds the strips respectively to the segments while the strips extend through the feed passage, thus carrying the strips with the segments and holding apart the forward ends of the strips during the above-described transverse movement of the segments. Means on the segments acts when the insulating strips have been so moved to force the strips together about the strap and effect bonding between the strips.
