Patent number: 5807451Abstract: Pile weatherstripping having rows of pile and longitudinal fins both within and external to the rows of pile. The heights of the fins with respect to the height of the pile may be independently varied and controlled. A travelling endless band receives a pair of first webs providing internal fins on opposite sides of the band. The first webs are indexed to the edges of the band, which defines the heights of the fins. Each web may be independently indexed. Alignment of the webs on the band is provided either by an aligning fixture or by coining the webs to provide lines of indentations which index the webs at the edges of the band. The yarn which forms the pile is wound around the first webs. Second webs providing the external fins are indexed through the yarn and first webs to the edges of the band and are also aligned by a second aligning fixture or by coining. Backing strips are attached, as by ultrasonic welding, along the edges of the band. Then the yarn is slit without cutting into the webs.Type: GrantFiled: November 19, 1996Date of Patent: September 15, 1998Assignee: Ultrafab, Inc.Inventor: Larry E. Johnson

Patent number: 5338382Abstract: Pile weatherstripping having rows of pile sandwiching a fin is fabricated so as to precisely locate the height of the fin with respect to the height of the pile. A travelling endless band receives webs providing the fins on opposite sides thereof with the edge of each web, which defines the height of the fin, precisely positioned on a side of the band and the other edge overhanging the edges of the band. Alignment of the webs on the band is provided either by an aligning fixture or by coining the webs to provide lines of indentations which index the webs at the edges of the band. The yarn which forms the pile is wound around the webs and the band and serves to wrap the overhanging portions of the webs around the band, or a guide may be used to facilitate wrapping of the webs around the band, prior to winding of the yarn. Backing strips are attached, as by ultrasonic welding, along the edges of the band. Then the yarn is slit without cutting into the webs.Type: GrantFiled: August 10, 1992Date of Patent: August 16, 1994Assignee: Ultrafab Inc.Inventors: Larry E. Johnson, Peter Galens

Patent number: 4904332Abstract: Apparatus for producing a continuous sequence of disposable headdresses in which the edge of the cap fabric has been folded inward around a peripherally extending elastic cord to provide a smooth edge which contacts the wearer, and provides superior adhesion between the elastic cord and the cap fabric by utilizing an elastic cord and fabric which are coated with or made of thermoplastically compatible materials. The elastic cord and fabric are assembled by passing the fabric and the cord through a guide system which turns the fabric side edges down from a horizontal plane to a vertical plane while an edge guide lays the elastic cord under the fabric, and then turns the fabric under the cord to sandwich in the folded edge. Warm air preheaters heat the elastic cord and the fabric before completing the fabric fold around the cord. The folded edges with the cord inside pass between dual heat wheels which physically press the fabric to the cord and also seal the fabric edge to the inside of the crown.Type: GrantFiled: May 1, 1987Date of Patent: February 27, 1990Assignee: Cellucap Manufacturing CompanyInventor: Thomas J. Patent number: 4388141Abstract: Straps or belt loop strips are formed with the apparatus and method of the present invention by folding a strip of fabric about a strip of fusible material, threading the folded, combined strip back and forth between two side-by-side, counter-rotating cylinders so that, in the preferred embodiment, the strip forms a plurality of figure eight patterns over and between the two cylinders, and heating the cylinders to a temperature which is above the melting point of the fusible strip but below the scorching point of the material. The speed at which the cylinders are counter-rotated with respect to each other is chosen, in conjunction with the number of loops of the combined strip over the cylinders, to place the combined strip in contact with the heated surface for a length of time sufficient to accomplish complete fusing.Type: GrantFiled: December 3, 1980Date of Patent: June 14, 1983Assignee: Levi Strauss & Co.Inventor: Hubert Blessing

Patent number: 4201032Abstract: An apparatus for cutting textile strands and forming the cut strands into bundles including a means for supplying the textile strands. A means for positioning the textile strands funnels the textile strands into a grouping of substantially parallel strands having a substantially cylindrical cross-section. A means for wrapping the parallelly arranged strands places a wrapper of paper around the strands and secures it by adhesive. A capstan guides the parallel strands to an accumulator pipe which has at its end a means for cutting the strands. The strands are held and retained so that a blade can cut them and the ends of the strands of the bundle are joined by adhesive or heat. An adhesive strip is tangentially attached to the sides of the bundles so that they may be wrapped around a rotating shaft.Type: GrantFiled: February 16, 1978Date of Patent: May 6, 1980Assignee: Rhone-Poulenc-TextileInventor: Silvio Sangalli
