Abstract: A plastic or other film bag is formed from a continuous extruded tube. The tube is flattened and sealed across its width at intervals to form bag bottoms. The bags are joined to one another at a perforation line and folded in thirds lengthwise prior to being rolled into a compact roll, either with or without supporting core. After folding the bags may be chisel cut through the center of the perforation line to assist in dispensing of the bags. The chisel cut will extend through all layers of the bag when folded, resulting in three chisel cuts in the bag. The bags may be gusseted for part or as much as all of their width. The bags may also be corona treated and printed on their outer surfaces. The bags may be formed from partially recycled materials and various combinations of linear low density, medium and high density polyethylene.

  • Patent number: 5858153
Abstract: In the manufacture of multichamber tubular containers it has been found that the inner divider walls should be bonded to the exterior wall by means of a band sealing method. In the band sealing method there is a band that contacts the upper film and a band that contacts the lower film that are to be bonded. In the present processes the upper band contacts the inner divider wall while the lower band contacts the exterior surface of the outer wall of the tubular container. In order to prevent the marring or otherwise putting a defect into the exterior surface of the outer wall the temperature of the lower band is maintained at a lower temperature than the upper band. This will decrease the temperature of the exterior surface of the outer wall and prevent imperfections in the exterior surface of the outer wall. The advantage is a multichamber tubular container without any imperfections in the exterior surface. This enhances the overall appearance of the tubular container.

  • Patent number: 5766390
Abstract: A tube-forming machine and process has a supply for delivering an elongate, folded, plastic web along a path of travel. The web may be clear polyethylene folded treated surface to treated surface. A cutting mechanism is positioned along the path including a hard cylindrical roll and a cutter having a cutting head and means to bias the head toward the roll. A rotatable sealing drum has a cylindrical web engaging surface delineating a further portion of the path. A set of circumferentially spaced flame-emitting nozzles are positioned adjacent the drum surface section. Each of the nozzles includes a tip disposed within the cylinder delineated by said drum surface and has an axis disposed in an imaginary radial plane. Each tip is directed radially upwardly to impinge its flame against portions of a web being fed along the path when such portions project from said drum surface. Each tip axis is at an angle from 90.degree. to 60.degree.

  • Patent number: 5759337
Abstract: A continuous web of a preprinted heat shrinkable film with a heat sensitive adhesive on one surface thereof is wound around an outer periphery of a core member in such a manner as to overlap opposite longitudinal edges of the film to one another and form a continuous tubular label with the heat sensitive adhesive applied surface inwardly facing. A predetermined length of the continuous tubular label is cut into individual tubular labels, as the continuous tubular label is drawn downstream. The individual tubular label is applied over a container having a portion of a gradually decreasing cross section, from a portion of a smaller cross section of the container. The individual tubular label applied over the container is heated. Thereby, the individual tublar label is shrinked into intimate contact with the container with its portion of a larger cross section being bonded to the individual tubular label via the heat sensitive adhesive applied to the inwardly facing surface.

Abstract: A tube-tape-forming apparatus having a tube-forming base (1, 41) with a half-fold means (5, 46) on a feed end (2, 42), a full-fold means (7, 48) on a cut-off end (3, 43) and a transition-fold means (6, 47) intermediate the half-fold means and the full-fold means. .The half-fold means are guides (8, 11, 14, 15, 49, 52) which fold single-side-adhesion tape (26) in half linearly with nonadhesive sides (30) in contact. The transition-fold means brings opposite sides of folded tape towards each other selectively to form variously loop-folding with overlap of sides of the tape. The full-fold means are guides (19, 21, 23, 71, 88) which press the overlapped sides of the folded tape together in adhesive relationship to form variously circumferential (31) or flattened (32) linear-seam tube tape that can be used in flattened form or hand-inflated to be used in tubular form. The transition-fold means and the guides can be provided with rollers (33, 91).

  • Patent number: 5624527
Abstract: An apparatus for dispensing adhesive tape tubes with pressure sensitive adhesive oriented at the outer circumference there on. The tube is formed from standard one-sided pressure sensitive adhesive tape. A continuous tubular profile is established by passing the tape through a profile configurator with the adhesive orientated outwardly to cause the tape to be formed into a spiral cone with overlapping edges. The overlapping edges of the tape merge together radially and become in mutual adhesive contact beyond said configurator to form tubed tape of cylindrical characteristics with a longitudinal seam.

  • Patent number: 5558739
Abstract: An apparatus and method for applying adhesive on opposite edges of a longitudinal slit formed in a tubular body of resilient insulation material is provided. The apparatus includes a conveyor which moves the tubular body along a conveyor path. A feed assembly feeds a pair of tape strips along separate feed paths so that an adhesive applicator located adjacent to each feed path at an application point applies adhesive to a surface of the tape strip as it is fed along the feed path. A wedge-shaped plow is formed from a pair of flat plates which converge at an acute angle toward one another. The flat plates each have a leading edge which directs each tape strip from the feed paths along an exterior surface of one of the plates along lines parallel with the conveyor path.

  • Patent number: 5522551
Abstract: A drip irrigation hose of the continuous emitter type in which the outlets from the regulating passage each comprise a single longitudinal slit. By controlling the length of the slits and the flexibility of the film, water drips from the outlets when the hose is pressurized without clogging when the hose is depressurized. The slits are sufficiently long and the film is sufficiently flexible so the water drips from the outlets when the hose is pressurized. The slits are sufficiently short and the film is sufficiently rigid so the outlets close completely when the hose is depressurized. An outlet forming wheel has a knife blade on its periphery. A backing wheel engages the outlet forming wheel to establish a first nip therebetween. The backing wheel has on its periphery a circumferential slot into which the knife blade fits at the first nip. A rib forming wheel has around its periphery impressions that define a desired track pattern for the ribs.

Finally, the section is cut to length.
