With Work Cooling Means Patents (Class 156/498)
  • Patent number: 3976533
Abstract: An apparatus for bonding paper or foil webs to substrate surfaces. In particular, the apparatus is to be used for applying wall-paper of the type which is provided with an adhesive backing material consisting, for example, of polyvinyl acetate. In use, the apparatus is pressed against the positioned wall-paper and is moved over it. It includes a heater which softens the adhesive material, a roller or resilient strip which presses the wall-paper against the substrate surface and a cooler which cools and solidifies the adhesive backing material.

  • Patent number: 3964958
Abstract: A device for heat bonding thermoplastic materials. At least one pressure chamber having a diaphragm is spaced from a supporting surface with the diaphragm and supporting surface in opposing relation to each other. Materials to be bonded are positioned between the pressure chamber diaphragm and supporting surface and the pressure in the chamber is raised above ambient pressure causing a deflection of the diaphragm. The amount of diaphragm deflection increases with the distance from the pressure chamber side wall. Either the supporting surface or the pressure chamber, or both, is moved toward the other causing a contact between the deflected diaphragm, supporting surface and the materials to be bonded. As the relative movement continues, the contact area with the materials to be bonded increases thereby progressively expelling air trapped between the materials.

  • Patent number: 3948720
Abstract: A welding jaw for thermoplastics material comprises a cooled carrier with two parallel heating elements on one surface. At least part of the surface of the carrier is so spaced from the surfaces of the elements that on welding, material flows from under the element to be cooled and hardened on contacting the surface part. Thus allows rapid firm welding and is particularly useful in transverse welding of liquid filled tubes.

  • Patent number: 3944460
Abstract: A manually operable combination strapping tool for applying plastic strapping around an object includes a strap-tensioning and gripping mechanism for holding the strap in a tensioned loop around the object with the supply portion of the strap overlapping the leading end thereof, and a heat sealing mechanism which comprises a cam shaft adapted for camming engagement with a movable pressure block and with a rocker arm which is in turn releasably coupled to a movable heater. As the cam shaft is rotated, the rocker arm moves the heater between the overlapping strap portions and the pressure block is moved to press together the heating element and strap portions for melting thereof. Further rotation of the cam shaft disengages it from the pressure block and decouples the rocker arm from the heater to permit retraction of the pressure block and the heater by separate bias means.

  • Patent number: 3943028
Abstract: Apparatus and process for manufacturing non-woven textile pile fabric from a plurality of pile-forming strands having thermoplastic characteristics, as follows. A hollow strand extruder receives parallel textile strands therein extending longitudinally therethrough and shapes the strands into a continuous mass of a predetermined configuration for withdrawal therefrom. A plurality of relatively thin spaced-apart successive compartment devices are positioned generally in axial alignment with the extruder and define successive spaced-apart open-sided interior areas of the same general configuration of the shaped mass of strands and collectively define a longitudinally-extending passageway for receiving and holding the continuous mass of strands therein after withdrawal from the extruder.

  • Patent number: 3938931
Abstract: A method and apparatus for insulating a plurality of electrically conductive elements and to produce electrical cable where the method includes heating the unformed insulative material and conductive elements, applying pressure and simultaneously removing heat with a pair of rollers at a relatively low temperature and applying pressure and heat to preselected regions only of the insulative material. The method and apparatus further allow preselected portions of the cable to be unbonded so as to facilitate access to the conductive elements by simply interrupting the application of pressure to the preselected portions. The heat, press and cool and press and bond method may also be accomplished in a step and repeat process using presses to insulative flexible circuits. The above method and apparatus provide more reliable bonding at an accelerated rate of production.
