Abstract: A tape head includes a two-stage system by which a spring is tensioned. In a first stage, the spring may be partially tensioned when a case, moving along a conveyor, contacts a first application roller. The spring may be additionally tensioned when the case, continuing to move along the conveyor, contacts the second stage. In one example of the second stage, a lever is moved by contact with the moving case. Movement of the lever moves tensions the spring further. By tensioning the spring in multiple stages, assemblies and/or processes, less force is applied by the case to the first application roller. Accordingly, it is less likely to deform the case. The tensioned spring provides energy to move a second application roller around a trailing edge of the case, and thereby press a cut end of the tape against a side of the case.

The press time is often a limiting factor for the production capacity of a plant and renders the production planning difficult. The press time is affected not by the temperature of the elements, but also a great extent by the relation between the components in the glue and can be significantly decreased by increasing the amount of hardener compared to the amount of resin. According to the invention, it has been found that this can be utilised for controlling the gluing in a way so the production can be planned more efficiently.

Abstract: A device surface of a device (e.g., a screen or touchpad of a mobile phone or a portable media player) may be protected from damage by the application of a protective film with an adhesive. However, it may be difficult for a user to achieve an accurate alignment of the film with the device surface, resulting in cosmetic and functional disadvantages. Presented herein are techniques for achieving an accurate alignment of the film to the device surface through the use of an applicator, comprising one or more anchors that respectively couple with one or more projections of the device surface (e.g., a plug conformant with a headphones port). The film may be positioned with respect to the applicator, such that when the anchors of the applicator couple with corresponding surface projections of the device surface, the film is accurately and precisely aligned with the device surface.

Abstract: A self-adhesive napkin for releasably attaching to a beverage container having a plurality of openings formed along an edge of the napkin and a pressure sensitive, single-sided adhesive tape applied to the edge of the outer surface of the napkin containing the plurality of openings. The adhesive surface of the adhesive tape along one edge of the napkin is protected from inadvertent adherence by way of the recesses formed in the napkin from the plurality of openings. Further, for napkins in a uniformly oriented stack conformation, the non-adhesive surface of the adhesive tape functions as a release layer. Application of pressure to the adhesive tape collapses the adhesive surface into and through the plurality of openings for releasably attaching to a target surface.
