  • Patent number: 7077185
Abstract: A hand held tape dispenser for applying adhesive tape to a surface. The dispenser includes a housing for holding and dispensing a roll of tape and has a tape dispensing opening therein. A plurality of rollers are within the housing, the outer surfaces of which coact with each other and the tape to retain, guide and feed the tape through the opening. The outer surface of at least one of the rollers protrudes through the opening on one side thereof enabling frictional contact of the roller with the surface to be taped. When the tape dispenser passes over the surface in one direction the outer surface of the roller engages the surface and the tape causing it to roll and to coact and drive the other rollers. This causes the rollers to grip the surfaces of the tape and feed the tape through the opening enabling the tape to adhesively contact the surface and adhere thereto. The tape is cut off at the opening.

Abstract: An aircraft part manufacturing device for automated composite lay up includes a mandrel tool having a an interior mandrel surface that conforms to an outside mold line (OML) of a part: to be manufactured. One or more circular rings surround the mandrel and are attached to the mandrel. The circular rings rotate supported by bearings in a bearing cradle so that the mandrel rotates concentrically with the circular rings about an axis of rotation passing through the center of the circular rings. Multiple composite material delivery heads simultaneously deliver material directly to the outside mold line on the interior mandrel surface while the mandrel is rotated. A cantilever supported gantry beam supports the material delivery heads inside the interior mandrel surface. A connecting mechanism connects the material delivery heads to the gantry beam and provides motion of the material delivery heads relative to the interior mandrel surface.

  • Patent number: 6971431
Abstract: A tape dispenser for applying adhesive tape to a substrate surface. The dispenser includes an exterior application surface with an opening therein. A plurality of rotatable cylindrical rollers are mounted within the housing, wherein the surfaces of the rollers coact with each other and the tape surfaces to retain, guide and feed the tape through the tape dispensing opening to the exterior application surface. At least two of the plurality of rollers are opposed rollers that engage the tape surfaces therebetween. The outer surface of at least one of the plurality of rollers protrudes through the opening enabling frictional contact of the roller surface with the substrate surface. When the dispenser is drawn over the surface, the outer surface of the this roller engages and rolls over the substrate surface. It also coacts with the outer surfaces of the other rollers, causing them to grip the tape and feed it through the opening, enabling the adhesive tape to be applied to the substrate surface.

  • Patent number: 6874554
Abstract: A tape dispenser having a frame, a cutter blade and at least one pair of projections disposed on the opposed interior surfaces of the side walls is disclosed. The distance between the projections is less than the distance between the interior surfaces of the side walls and is also less than the width of the tape held in the dispenser. The tape dispenser may also include a pair of tabs either associated with the projections or positioned between the projections and the tape mount. The dispenser is adapted to hold a roll of adhesive tape therein and because of the decreased distance between the projections, the tape assumes a convex shape when viewed from the front end of the dispenser. Abstract: The invention relates to a hand-held device for transferring a film of, for example, adhesive, covering, or colored material onto a substrate. The device has a housing accommodating a film supply and an application member longitudinally projecting from the housing. Film extends from the supply at the lower longitudinal side of the application member facing the substrate during the mode of operation to an application edge of the application member running transversely at the front end. The application member is composed of two application member portions movable relative to each other. In order to enhance the movability of the hand-held device, the relative movement is limited by motion stops provided as an integral part at the application member portions.

Abstract: An ergonomic dispenser of a roll of adhesive film facilitates application of that film to a surface with minimum manipulation by the user. The dispenser has a low profile where the cutting blade, axis of rotation of the adhesive film roll and dispenser handle lie in closely aligned planes. This creates a low profile dispenser which places the roll of adhesive film in close proximity to the application surface. A flexible shield overlies the cutting blade to prevent unwanted user contact with the blade. Various means are used to manage the loose end of film after it is cut off the roll so that it does not adhere to the roll or double over on itself Unidirectional movement of the roll is also used to manage the loose end of tape after cutoff. Optionally, blade means may be added to the dispenser's handle for use in opening cartons, cutting string or the like.

  • Patent number: 6817398
Abstract: The invention relates to a hand-held device for applying a film from a backing tape onto a substrate. The device has a housing in which a supply of the backing tape and a take-up device for the backing tape are arranged, and an application member which projects from the housing. The application member has an application gib and is pivotably connected to an application base supported at the housing about a swivelling axis extending transversely to the projecting application gib. The application member has two lateral support legs arranged at a distance from the application edge and defining an abutment plane with the application edge which abuts on the substrate in the mode of operation of the hand-held device. In order to enhance the bearing characteristics of the application member, the joint is provided in the projection onto the abutment plane between the support legs and the application edge.

Abstract: A portable tool is disclosed that is useful for working architectural elements such as masticized tape. The tool features a tool body that forms a regular polygon having at least 6 planar surfaces. The planar surfaces of the tool body promote handling of the tool and are useful for directing and manipulating the work of the tool. The planar surfaces may also comprise protrusions, depressions, or other markings in aid of directing the work of the tool. The tool also comprises a head apparatus for applying and dispensing masticized tape. The tool body may comprise a container for storing and dispensing mastic. The tool further comprises a tapered universal fill nozzle having a plurality of diameters that will accommodate remote charging of the tool from mechanisms provided by a variety of manufacturers. Although the body of the tool is usually made of corrosion resistant metal, it may also be made of a polymer, a carbon composite, or combination thereof.

Abstract: A method and device for applying sheet material, such as wallpaper, to a substrate. The applicator is bi-positionable, having a first position where the sheet material is spaced apart from the substrate and a second position where the sheet material contact the substrate. Additionally or alternatively, the applicator may be provided with a control bar. In the first position, the control bar contacts a portion of the sheet material such as its free end. This minimizes the chance of the sheet material prematurely contacting the substrate. In the second position, the sheet material is disengaged from the control bar for application to the substrate. The applicator and sheet material may be provided together in a kit.

Abstract: A clutch mechanism having an easy-to-manufacture and inexpensive constitution, by making use of frictional engaging force in thrust direction, in a coat film transfer tool of automatic winding type. At least at the feed reel side, a clutch mechanism is provided between a driven member of a tape winding portion and a drive side rotary gear for rotating and driving it, and its power transmission makes use of the frictional engaging force in thrust direction between the driven member and drive side rotary gear. This frictional engaging force can be set by properly adjusting the dimensional relation in thrust direction between the mutual constituent members, and therefore the designing and manufacturing conditions of the constituent members are less strict, manufacture is easy, assembling is easy, and hence the manufacturing cost and device cost can be lowered.
