Pintle Removable From Remainder Of Hinge Patents (Class 16/262)
  • Patent number: 4860424
Abstract: A hinge pin is temporarily held on a first hinge member on the automobile body by means of a hinge pin support mechanism. A door to be attached to the automobile body is held in position, and a second hinge member on the door is brought into engagement with the first hinge member. The hinge pin is pressed into the second hinge member through the first hinge member to couple the door to the automobile door. The hinge pin support mechanism includes a hinge pin retaining member including a ring separably joined to a plurality of legs. When the hinge pin is pressed into the hinge members, the ring is sheared off from the legs and rides in a peripheral groove defined in the hinge pin. The ring then engages one of the hinge members to prevent the hinge pin from being removed from the hinge members. The door can automatically be attached to the automobile body by a door attaching mechanism and detached from the automobile body by a door detaching mechanism.

  • Patent number: 4807331
Abstract: A door hinge assembly enabling a vehicle door to be readily removed and remounted during an assembly line operation, for example. A hinge body-half sub-assembly comprises a main member mounted on a body strut and a U-shaped link member, having a plurality of external guide surfaces, pivotally connected by a pintle pin to the main member. The door-half member is channel-shaped having its bight wall formed with a pair of normally extending sidewalls with one sidewall and the bight wall defining a pair of interior guide surfaces. Upon the door-half member being initially moved laterally into nested relation with the link member its interior guide surfaces are located in flush abutment with associated link member guide surfaces. Subsequent guided vertical sliding travel of the door-half member relative to the link member provides self-aligned reception of the pintle pin within a leaf flange pintle pin hole of the door-half member.

  • Patent number: 4800623
Abstract: In a hinge assembly intended for suspension of motor vehicle doors having two hinge halves which can be attached at one of two door installation parts and connected with one another so as to be rotatable by means of a hinge pin, the hinge halves being rotatable with running fit in one hinge half and being arranged secured against axial movement, the two hinge halves are arranged in a position which corresponds to the hung-in position of the vehicle door and they are secured by screw bolts which penetrate the hinge eye of the second hinge half to prevent that the hinge falls apart during a possible automatic loosening from the position of the two hinge halves when the door is hung in due to assembly errors. Screw bolts form the primary safety mechanism of the hinge assembly and a secondary emergency safety device is also provided which is formed by means of interlocking sections or parts of both hinge wings extending over the area of the operating angle of traverse of the hinge assembly.

Abstract: A method and apparatus for erecting buildings is disclosed. The method involves providing frame elements of a building which may be made up of spaced columns connected together by a beam or beams which may meet at a gable. To erect the frames, each frame is disposed horizontally on the ground with bases of the columns attached by a hinge member to a footing. A spacer bar is supported with one end in a recess in the ground or attached to the frame. A tension member such as a cable is attached to the frame at the gable and is passed over the top end of the spacer post and a vehicle or other prime mover is attached to the tension member to pull the frame to erect position. Each of the hinge members may be made of a socket to attach to the base of a column and a shoe attached to a ground support footing. Each socket is hinged to the shoe by a forwardly facing slot that receives a pin on the socket.

Abstract: First (12) and second (42,62) body portions are each attached to a structural member. The first body portion (12) includes trunnions (18) that are slidably received in corresponding channels in the second body portion (42,62). The second body portion (42,62) includes a base member (62) and a pivot member (42), which cooperate to form the channels. The pivot member (42) has an open position and a closed position. A spring (82) biases the pivot member (42) in its closed position. A lever (44) moves the pivot member (42) against the force of the spring (82) into its open position. When the pivot member (42) is in its closed position, it blocks portions of the channels, thereby locking the trunnions (18) into one of two lock positions in the channels. When the pivot member (42) is in its open position, the trunnions (18) may slide in the channels from one lock position to another or out of the channels to disengage the two body portions.

  • Patent number: 4358871
Abstract: A molded hinge mechanism includes a pair of hinge members having open slotted barrel portions which may be molded integrally with the hinge members without the necessity of core inserts or separate drilling operations. The hinge members include at least one pair of interfitting semi-cylindrical surfaces generated about the common axis of the barrel portions which slidably engage with one another as the hinge members rotate relatively about the axis. The slots which contain the hinge pin are open and the slidable interfitting of the semi-cylindrical surfaces prevents the hinge members from separating when the slots are oriented 180.degree. oppositely. Since the semi-cylindrical surfaces do not intrude into the open slots, each hinge member may be molded in a one step operation without the necessity of drilling or inserts.
