The arrestor comprises a cam surface on the first hinge member and a roller mounted on the second hinge member. The roller is resiliently displaceable relative to the second member to force the roller into engagement with the cam surface so as to provide the desired check. In accordance with the invention the roller includes a polymer sleeve with which it engages the cam surface, to absorb and thereby reduce the noise and to reduce the wear produced as the roller moves over the cam surface as the hinge is opened and closed. The sleeve material may be PTFE or Nylon and may be snap fitted over the roller and may include an axial slot. The roller and cam surface are conveniently formed from metal.

  • Patent number: 4864689
Abstract: An arrangement for mounting doors on motor vehicles, wherein the doors may be removed during assembly and replaced in a desired mounted position on the vehicle including an upper and a lower hinge assembly with at least one screw bolt engaged in one of the assemblies along a common rotational axis for securing the door in its installed operating position. At least one of the hinge assemblies is provided with a first and a second commercial bearing part which are arranged in a forked configuration with a third commercial bearing part being operatively engaged between the first and second bearing parts in a free space therebetween. An axially adjustable bearing pin is arranged to extend through one of the first and second bearing parts to hold the door so as to be free from play and to secure the door in its installed operating position against unintentional removal.

  • Patent number: 4692963
Abstract: A self-closing isolation door installation adapted to swing between a closed and an open position. A resilient gasket is connected about the periphery of the door to insure a tight seal. The door has a rotatable first hinge vertically mounted and adapted for mounting to the side of a door frame. A second self-closing hinge is provided including an elongated C-shaped bracket mounted into the edge of the door. The C-shaped bracket includes a vertical support strut, upper arm and lower arm. A support shaft is vertically fixed between the upper arm and the lower arm. A housing bracket is mounted to the shaft and is adapted for mounting to the side of the door frame. The housing bracket defines an inverted V-shaped cam surface. A cam follower including a radially spaced apart inner follower roller and an outer follower roller is mounted around the shaft with the outer roller adapted for vertical movement within a slot in the strut and the inner roller is engageable to follow the cam surface.
