Patent number: 4761853Abstract: A geared hinge is formed by a pair of intermeshed geared hinge members which are maintained in mesh by a connector member. When the hinge members are in one position there are longitudinal recesses which are diminished in volume when the hinge members are in an alternate position. Deposits of resilient rubber-like material are inserted into the open recesses. These deposits are compressed when the hinge members are moved toward the alternate position. The resistance to compression imparts a self-closing action to the hinge.Type: GrantFiled: April 15, 1987Date of Patent: August 9, 1988Assignee: Allied Plastics Enterprises, Inc.Inventor: George H. Patent number: 4655498Abstract: A sun visor for an automotive vehicle, having one main surface in which is defined a recess in which a housing is disposed over which a cover is pivotally mounted. One hinge pin for the cover is placed on the visor body. A second hinge pin for the cover is placed on the cover. A C-shaped strap joins the hinge pins. Each end region of the strap has two detent recesses. A respective spring biased locking element at each end region engages in one or the other respective recess at the end region to hold the strap to pivot between two detented positions. This holds the cover and also permits the cover to pivot between detented positions, which enables the cover to be held closed against the one main surface, outwardly projecting from that surface or fully opened orientation at that surface. Details of both spring arrangements for cooperating with the detent recesses are disclosed. The side of the cover exposed at a fully open orientation carries a mirror.Type: GrantFiled: May 14, 1986Date of Patent: April 7, 1987Assignee: Gebr. Patent number: 4555136Abstract: In a furniture article consisting of a back rest, seat and foot rest the foot rest is pivotally moveable between a position in which the foot rest is held substantially horizontally outwardly from the seat, and a position in which the foot rest abuts against the seat. This is achieved by a frame work holding the seat support material, which frame work consists entirely of side edge rods having hinges between the seat and the foot rest portion of the side rods, the frame work having no transverse rods which could decrease the physiologically acceptable seat functions and comfort of the article in any of said foot rest positions. The back rest portions of the side rods are provided with hinges which permit the back rest to assume two positions, one with a high back rest and the other with a low back rest having a portion of the back rest abutting against the remaining back rest surface, without any comfort decreasing transverse rods existing in either of said back rest positions.Type: GrantFiled: March 30, 1983Date of Patent: November 26, 1985Inventor: Jan Dranger
