  • Patent number: 5390393
Abstract: A caster includes a U-shaped caster horn having a top web portion and two contiguous downwardly-extending leg portions to define a unitary, U-shaped member providing a wheel accommodating space. A wheel is rotatably supported in the space such that the caster horn partially covers the wheel, The caster horn features a fouling-resistant bearing cup integrally formed thereon for receiving and retaining a bearing assembly, which secures one end of an structure-supporting stem. A swivel cap with a hole formed in the center thereof is placed over the cup while allowing an opposite end of the stem to protrude therethrough. A brake mechanism supported by the caster horn may be operated to inhibit or prevent rotation of the wheel.

  • Patent number: 5361454
Abstract: A modular wheel assembly for use with apparatus having a weight-bearing frame, such as a baby stroller, includes a mounting unit consisting of a cylindrical tubular member having an open upper end and a closed lower end wall. The tubular member is dimensioned to receive the lower end of a tubular frame member of the apparatus. A wheel supporting unit includes a cylindrical sleeve portion dimensioned to receive the tubular member of the mounting unit in close tolerance, freely rotating fashion. The sleeve portion and mounting unit are dimensioned so that the weight supported by the frame member is transferred through the bearing flange of the mounting unit to the cylindrical sleeve portion of the wheel supporting unit. An axle tube extends perpendicularly through lower end portions of the web members to be supported thereby. The axle tube is adapted to receive an axle therethrough, with a pair of wheels secured to opposed ends of the axle.

  • Patent number: 4974284
Abstract: A wheel assembly and a picnic table with the wheel assembly attached thereto includes a bracket which has an arm portion and a mounting flange portion. The mounting flange portion is inclined at an angle of about 65.degree. with respect to the longitudinal extent of the upper edge of the arm portion. The flange portion is attached to inner face of the leg of the article of furniture such that the wheel which is located at the distal end of the arm portion is in close proximity to the underlying support surface. When attached to the leg of the article of furniture, the wheel is aligned with a side edge of the leg so that it does not form an obstruction which would be encountered by the legs of a person seated on the furniture in use.

  • Patent number: 4748715
Abstract: An adjustable roller assembly for supporting and leveling an appliance including a rail secured to the appliance and having a keyhole opening with a horizontal stationary base frame secured to the rail. A bracket having a bottom end is pivotally secured to the base frame and the top end of the bracket has a threaded nut spaced from the keyhole opening in the rail. A roller is rotatably secured to the bottom end of the bracket and is movable up and down relative to the stationary base frame in response to pivotal movement of the bracket. A horizontally disposed bolt having a head portion, a shank portion, a threaded portion, and an unthreaded terminal end portion is provided with the shank portion passing through the keyhole opening in the rail. The head portion is located on one side of the rail, and the threaded portion on the opposite side of the rail and threadingly engages the nut.

  • Patent number: 4709444
Abstract: A wheel bracket mounting structure which includes an elongated and flexible bracket member having an axle mounting section and a stem mounting section at generally opposite ends thereof. The axle mounting section includes a generally flat, platelike portion. The stem mounting section includes an elongate, generally arcuate stem adapted to be directly attached to a support member on a wheeled vehicle. An intermediate section is provided between the axle mounting section and the stem mounting section. A segment is provided at the juncture between the intermediate section and the flat, platelike portion to provide a region remote from the arcuate stem about which the platelike portion can elastically flex relative to the arcuate stem.

  • Patent number: 4471508
Abstract: A linearly reversible caster assembly (30) capable of carrying a load (L) on a surface (S) comprising a pivotable U-shaped frame (34) coaxially mounted with a caster wheel (32) on an axle (48). A translatable U-shaped frame (36), suitably attached to the load (L), has a planar surface (56) that coacts with a rollable surface (42) carried by the pivotable frame (34). The rollable surface (42) has a radius greater than the wheel (32) whereby when it is desired to reverse the direction of travel of the load (L), and thus the assembly (30), the frame (34) will pivot about the axle (48) and the wheel (32) will remain substantially motionless. As a result, the eccentricity of the caster assembly (30) is changed and the wheel (32) is linearly reversed.
