Abstract: A hinge comprises a first body and a second body irremovably rotatably coupled along a rotational axis of the hinge. The first body and the second body comprise opposing radial bearing surfaces engaged only within a working rotational range of the hinge for fixing the relative position of the first body and the second body in a radial direction with respect to the rotational axis of the hinge. The first body and the second body further define opposing axial bearing surfaces engaged only within the working rotational range of the hinge for fixing the relative position of the first body and the second body in an axial direction with respect to the rotational axis of the hinge. The opposing radial bearing surfaces and the opposing axial bearing surfaces are not engaged outside of the working rotational range.

Abstract: In exemplary embodiments of the present invention, systems and methods for providing collapsible luggage are presented. Such exemplary collapsible luggage can have two states: (i) a fully extended state in which said luggage is used by a user to hold, for example, clothing and objects, and (ii) a compressed or folded state in which the luggage has a minimum volume and can be easily and conveniently stored, especially where space is a premium. Various novel technologies are used to obtain maximal compression in the compressed state, provide rigidity and structural support in the fully extended state, and to allow for convenient transformation between the two states. One of such technologies is a self-locking hinge mechanism requiring no direct contact from a user, which also provides audible feedback to the user.

Abstract: A temporary checking device is provided that works in conjunction with elements of a vehicle hinge that remain in the vehicle's final configuration. The hinge includes a hinge pin rotatably connecting a door hinge bracket to a pillar hinge bracket. The checking device includes a spring portion that is disposed between the door hinge bracket and the pillar hinge bracket. The spring portion is compressed during movement of the door hinge bracket relative to the pillar hinge bracket from either of two rest positions. The spring portion urges the vehicle door affixed thereto back into one of the rest positions, thus allowing manufacturing operations such as painting, etc., to be performed on the vehicle.

Abstract: A pivot device has a pivot axle fastened on a cover of a lap top computer, a seat fastened on a chassis of the computer, and a first ring and a second ring respectively mounted around the pivot axle. The second ring and an elastic device are respectively mounted on the seat, and the second ring has two cutouts. Two lugs are respectively defined on the first ring and correspond to the cutouts. A nub is formed on an outer circumference of the first ring so that the nub presses against the elastic device. Hence, the cutouts are mated with the lugs by pushing so that the cover can be raised or lowered to the chassis and can be controlled to prevent colliding with the chassis.

Abstract: A dual pivot hinge for a vehicle door includes a door side hinge support, and a body side hinge support, connected by a hinge arm. The door side hinge support includes a cam surface terminating in a detent. A rocker arm is pivotally mounted to the hinge arm, and includes a roller that is biased against the cam surface of the door side hinge support. A stop link is pivotally mounted between the body side hinge support and the hinge arm. To open the door, the door side hinge support pivots about the hinge arm until the roller of the rocker arm engages the detent. As the door opens further, the hinge arm pivots on the body side hinge support. The stop link prevents the hinge arm from over-rotating, and a roller and torsion rod arrangement prevents the door from inadvertently closing. Closing the door follows the reverse sequence.

Abstract: A checker-equipped door hinge includes a checker that is provided between first and second hinge arms and imparts a stepwise limiting resistance to pivoting of the two hinge arms relative to each other. The checker includes a check cam that is formed separately from the first hinge arm and is fixedly attached to the first hinge arm; a roller that can sequentially engage with detent notches of the check cam in response to the pivoting of the two hinge arms relative to each other; and a torsion spring that is mounted in the second hinge arm while supporting the roller with its free end portion, the torsion spring biasing the roller in a direction in which it engages with the detent notches. Thus, a plurality of types of checker-equipped door hinges having various check properties can be provided at low cost by standardizing the hinge arm.
