Abstract: A cap member for a window stay, particularly a four bar friction linkage stay, comprises a recess for receiving the tapered end of the bar which is attached to the openable vent of the window when the window is closed, and a pivotally mounted pawl member having a surface which defines an internal cam surface of the recess and which is adapted to engage and guide the tip of the bar as the window is closed and the tapered end enters the recess, the pawl pivoting so that when the tapered end is fully received in the recess the engagement between the tip of the bar and the inner edge of the pawl causes the outer edge of the pawl to bear against the inclined edge of the tapered end to hold the bar, and hence the window vent, firmly in the closed position.

  • Patent number: 4914783
Abstract: A sliding hinge for mounting a nose cone or cover on a nacelle or housing, such as an equipment package suspended from the wing of an aircraft. Typically two hinges are used, positioned at opposite sides of the housing, for pivoting the nose cone upward to provide access to the equipment within the housing. Each hinge includes a sleeve mounted in the housing, a slide block sliding in the sleeve, and a slide arm pivotally attached to the slide block and mounted in the nose. To open the package, the nose is initially slid forward from the housing and then pivoted to an upward position. During this operation the slide arm slides out of the sleeve from a retracted position to an extended position and then pivots upward to the open position, with the slide block remaining in the sleeve.

Abstract: A bookmark and page holding device is provided for automatically holding and marking a page of a book. A spring clip attaches the bookmark to the rear cover of a book. A spring-loaded swing arm is pivotally attached to the spring clip at one end and has a page holder plate pivotally attached to the other end. In one embodiment, the swing arm is lengthwise adjustable to accommodate various sizes of books. As the book page is turned, the page holder plate pivots up and away from the page, allowing the page holder plate to return to the next page under the action of the spring-loaded swing arm. In a second embodiment, the page holder plate can be removed from the device and replaced. In a preferred embodiment, the page holder has an arcuate, inwardly curving edge for engaging the edge of the turned page to facilitate its use with lightweight paper. The page holder plate marks the last page being read when the book is closed as well as when opened.

  • Patent number: 4847950
Abstract: The assembly comprises two, snap-together pieces which, following their clinched or latched engagement, are freely rotatable relative to each other. One of the two pieces comprises a sleeve which has an inner annular land, and the other of the two pieces comprises a rod having flexible extending fingers which terminate in outwardly-directed, land-engaging and latching lugs. The rod is slid into the sleeve, with the lug-ended fingers entering first, and, consequently, the fingers are resiliently forced inwardly until the lugs reach the land. Then the fingers spring outwardly while the lugs latch onto the land. This latching together of the pieces requires no tools.
