  • Publication number: 20030226239
Abstract: A handle for tape dispenser includes a plastic grip formed via a first time injection molding. The grip is provided at front and rear sides with shallow recesses that have smoothly curved profiles and predetermined depths. The grip is then positioned in a forming machine, so that two covers formed from a thermally plastic rubber material via a second time injection molding are set in the shallow recesses to tightly attach to the plastic grip, enabling comfortable and stable holding of the tape dispenser at the grip without unwanted sliding of the handle relative to a user's hand. Etched patterns, densely distributed dots or other grains may be formed on outer surfaces of the rubber covers to provide enhanced grip resistance.

Abstract: This disclosure relates to a method for making a polymeric article mold, a method for making a polymeric article with that mold, and improved surface topography features for a polymeric article. A prototype article is formed and then coated with a thin conductive layer. The coated prototype article is then electroformed until nickel plated to a sufficient depth to define a nickel plating tool. After the prototype article has been removed from the mold face of the nickel tool, the tool can be used as a mold for forming finished polymeric articles which replicate the original prototype article. The use of fine topography features such as a dense upstanding stem array on the surface of the prototype article facilitates accurate and complete electroforming by increased surface area presentation. The disclosure also presents improvements to microreplicated surface structures such as stem arrays.

  • Patent number: 6148483
Abstract: A moldable hand grip and method of forming the grip using a light curable moldable material. The moldable material is wrapped around a handle of a hand held implement. Pressure is then applied with the hand of a user to mold the moldable material while the temperature of the material is at ambient temperature. Light is applied to the molded material to cure the material and form a custom grip.

  • Patent number: 6112372
Abstract: The present invention relates generally to a pot holder, which comprises at least two panels each being defined by an edge portion. Each panel has an outer layer, an inner layer and a heat insulating filling member sandwiched between the outer layer and the inner layer. The outer layer, the filling member and the inner layer of each panel are connected to one another along at least part of its edge portion. The pot holder of the present invention further comprises a joining member which continuously connects the panels along at least part of their edge portions to form a pocket portion therebetween. The pocket portion has an opening portion defined by the remaining edge portions of the panels. The pot holder of the present invention provides an easy, direct and effective way for protecting a user's hands and fingers from being burned. In addition, the pot holder of the present invention is simple and inexpensive to manufacture, and can be of excellent artistic flavor.

  • Patent number: 6070301
Abstract: Hammer rebound shock and hand and wrist fatigue associated with the use of a wire seating and/or cutting tool, such as an impact tool, is alleviated by a covering at least the butt end of the tool handle with an internally ribbed cushioning sleeve of elastically deformable material, such as soft rubber. Because of its ribbed configuration and soft rubber material, the cushioning sleeve readily absorbs the rebound of the hammer impact force that would otherwise be transmitted through the handle in the course of operation of the tool, and thereby provides shock protection for the craftsperson's hand.

  • Patent number: 5987705
Abstract: An air isolation hand or handle covering has a bladder consisting of a plurality of interconnected or independent inflation cells that is positioned between the hand and a hand-held tool or other vibrating object. The cells are oriented to permit easy bending of the hand covering in directions appropriate for grasping an object. The effectiveness of the bladder in reducing the vibration energy transmitted to the hand is a function of the bladder material thickness, the shape and configuration of the bladder, the pressure in the bladder, the compressible fluid used, the volume of the bladder, and the grip force and push force used when clasping a tool or other object. The bladder is attached in place by way of an attachment tab which is integrally formed from at least one of the layers of the bladder and extends for at least about one sixth the length of the fluid cavity.

  • Patent number: RE37190
Abstract: A universal handle for household and other hand-held implements, the handle being adapted to ergonomically render the implement to which it is applied useable by individuals who have difficulty in firmly grasping a conventional handle. The universal handle, which is fabricated of elastomeric material having good thermal insulation and cushioning properties, includes an internal cavity to socket the core shank of the implement. The handle has an elliptical cross section, the opposing sides of the handle adjacent its upper end each having a concave depression, in each of which an array of spaced, flexible fins is anchored to define a depressible grip site. When the fingers of a user's hand are clenched about the handle, the internal region of the resultant fist conforms to the form of the handle to provide a good grip thereon, the thumb and forefinger pressing into the grip sites to enhance the user's grip on the handle.
