  • Patent number: 6546596
Abstract: An extension pole for tools provides nearly universal attachment of a wide variety of different tool heads or components, for painting, cleaning, and other tasks which may require a long reach to access otherwise inaccessible areas. The present extension essentially comprises a tubular base or handle component and a tubular extension component. The extension tube telescopes within the base tube and may be locked at the desired extended length by a pull release pin which extends through a selected one of several holes in a keyway in the extension tube. The distal end of the handle tube includes a folded down tab which engages the extension tube keyway, to preclude axial rotation of the extension tube within the base tube. The distal end of the extension tube includes a threaded attachment, preferably having an Acme threaded configuration to provide nearly universal attachment of a wide variety of devices.

Abstract: An arrangement of frictional gripping zones on the handle of a power tool is disclosed. The power tool has a main body portion and a handle portion depending from the main body portion. The handle portion includes a first side region, a second side region opposite the first side region, a rear region connecting the first and second side regions along a rear of the handle portion, and a front region connecting the first and second side regions along a front of the handle portion. A plurality of alternating first and second gripping zones extend longitudinally along each of the first and second side regions of the handle portion. The first gripping zones are made the first gripping zones being made from a first material and the second gripping zones are made from a second material different from the first material. Preferably, the material of the second gripping zones have a hardness greater than the material of the first gripping zones.

  • Patent number: 6305051
Abstract: A finger supporting structure (F) includes a grip portion and a finger supporter (T) formed thereto. The grip portion is of an elongated bar shape and has adequate length and thickness for a hand to grasp. The grip portion is either all or part of a grasping member of an implement or all or part of a gripping member (G) having internal hole to receive the grasping member of an implement. The finger supporter (T) is a laterally extending projection rigidly formed, in one piece, on the grip portion. The finger supporter (T) is angled to be inclined with respect to the axis (X) of the grip portion in order that the resultant force of the muscles of the digits and hand can be generated and exerted to the optimal. The finger supporting structure (F) is embodied in the grasping members of various implements and thereby provides gripping parts (H) having finger supporter (T) of the implements.

  • Patent number: 6276027
Abstract: The present invention provides an ambulatory assistance device such as a grab bar or the like which pivots between a non-in-use and an in-use position. The pivoting of the device is assisted by a torsion member acting between the base member and the body. The torsion device is selected so as to retain the body in its non-in-use position when placed in that position. The weight of the pivoting body of the present invention overcomes the force generated by the torsion member when the body is placed in the in-use position so as to retain that orientation. Moreover, the torsion member acts to assist the user of the device in counteracting the weight of the pivoting body member when the body member is moved between the non-in-used position and the in-use position.

Abstract: A tool handle connection system and apparatus includes an elongate metal tube, and a connection member. The connection member has one attachment end thereof fitted in an end of the metal tube, and an opposite, threaded end axially projecting from the metal tube and connection member assembly. The metal tube is crimped around the attachment end of the connection member, and the threaded end of the connection member includes self-tapping screw threads and a rotation preventing member is connected to a tip portion to the threaded end after it is inserted through a broom head or the like to prevent the handle from rotating relative to the broom head once it is attached thereto. The connection member includes at least one flat region engaged by a crimped portion of the end of the elongate metal tube. The connection member preferably includes a means for reinforcing axial retention of the metal tube and a stopper means for limiting insertion of the attachment end into the metal tube.

  • Patent number: 6247204
Abstract: A handle for use in conjunction with a trowel or other tool having a tang for joining with the handle. The handle is constructed of a pair of shell portions that mate together to form a handle body. Each of the shell portions have radially inward extending members, such as flat annular or washer-shaped members, that have central openings. The openings align when the shell portions are mated and receive the tool tang to lock the shell portions together. A series of spaced ribs on each shell portion mates with opposed ribs and with the tang to strengthen the handle body. The exterior of the body is covered with a two-part, generally resilient and comfortable grip or cover. The cover is formed by first injection molding a part of the cover on the body. Thereafter, the body is placed in a second mold to mold the second part of the cover. Both parts of the cover extend to the surface and provide a difference in color, durometer or both.

  • Patent number: 6237192
Abstract: A removable grip for an ultrasound probe. The grip may be an integrated or unitary hand-held device having a circular or C-shaped cross-section that, when located at a predetermined operative position on the probe, removably surrounds a substantial portion of the probe to provide an exterior shape and size optimal for a desired application. The probe is generally an elongated instrument having proximal and distal ends and an external casing that is grasped by a sonographer. An ultrasound transducer is generally disposed at the distal end and a cord for transferring data and power typically extends from the proximal end of the probe. The grip includes proximal and distal ends and, in one disclosed aspect, a channel for receiving the cord. The channel is defined by opposing edges of the grip that longitudinally extend between the proximal and distal ends. The channel extends through the grip from an exterior surface to an interior surface of the grip.

Abstract: The foldable flatware utensil includes a shank with an integral spoon bowl, knife or fork. An elongated handle has an end that is telescopically connected to an end of the shank. A bore in the shank is aligned with a bore in the handle when assembled for use. A line has one end anchored in the bore in the shank. Another end of the line holds a portion of the line in the bore in the shank. If the line is elastic, the handle is urged toward the shank for use and stretches to permit the handle to be disengaged from the shank and folded for storage. If the line is inelastic, a sleeve is retained on the line and fixed in the bore in the handle. When removing the handle from the use position, a portion of the line is pulled through the sleeve and permits the handle to be folded for storage. A detent maintains a connection between the handle and the shank if needed.
