Abstract: The present invention relates to a door check device comprising a first and second link member engaging structure and a housing. An elongated link member has a first opposing end that provides a connecting portion, a second opposing end, and an intermediate portion that extends between the first and second opposing ends thereof and provides first and second opposing face surfaces. The intermediate portion has first and second detent regions that extend generally in a transverse direction of the link member on the first and second opposing face surfaces thereof, respectively. Biasing structure is constructed and arranged to bias the first and second engaging structures relatively towards one another to thereby urge the engaging structures into engagement with the first and second opposing face surfaces of the intermediate link member portion, respectively.

  • Patent number: 6192552
Abstract: There is provided a method and apparatus for securing a door in its open position. A cylinder is provided having a first hook and loop type fastener attached to one end. The cylinder is attached to a wall mountable door stop. A second hook and loop type fastener is attached to the door. The second hook and loop type fastener aligns with and is adapted to make contact with the first hook and loop type fastener when the door is fully open, thereby securing the door in its open position. The second hook and loop type fastener includes an adhesive backing. The second hook and loop type fastener becomes attached to the door by first attaching the first hook and loop fastener to the second hook and loop fastener, and then opening the door so that the door makes contact with the adhesive backing of the second hook and loop type fastener. The door is then at least partially closed and the second hook and loop type fastener becomes detached from the first hook and loop type fastener and attached to the door.

  • Patent number: 6178594
Abstract: A door check apparatus comprises an elongated body having side walls defining a channel and an energy absorber. When the door check is mounted to a door, a pivot pin is inserted through an opening at the first end of the elongated body, and a slide pin extends through the channel. The pivot pin is attached to the door and the slide pin is attached to the structure adjacent to the door. As the door is opened, the elongated body moves relative to the slide pin to position the slide pin toward the second end portion of the elongated body. The slide pin may be positioned in any one of one or more stop positions which yieldably hold the slide pin. If the door is opened beyond its normal opening arc, the energy absorber is engaged and resists further movement of the door.

  • Patent number: 6167654
Abstract: A device for automatically closing a closure installation (such as a window or a door) includes a drive device, a traction mechanism, a spring, an actuating device and a locking device. The closure installation is mounted in a frame supported by a building. The traction mechanism is located between the closure installation and the frame, and is driven by the drive device to close the closure installation. The spring is tensioned when the closure installation is placed in the open position, and supplies the energy to the drive device which is required to close the closure installation. The actuating device is used to initially place the closure installation in the open position. The actuating device tensions the spring when the closure installation is placed in the open position. The locking device is initially released to permit the closure installation to be placed in the open position.

Abstract: A door holder assembly used to maintain a door in an opened position. The assembly is made up of a door stop, a locking plate mounted on the door and a floor mounted door holder. The door stop and the door holder are fixed to the floor while the locking plate is fixed to the lower portion of the door and is positioned to engage the door holder when the door is opened. The locking plate has two joined segments one of which is planar and flat while the other of which has a right angled groove. Depending on the vertical elevation of the door's bottom above the floor, the same locking plate can be mounted to the door in one of two different positions. If the elevation is slight then the right angled groove portion is mounted on the vertical front door surface. Abstract: The present invention is structured so that a guide pin will be captured within holes disposed on opposite walls of a case. A stopper wedge piece having a contact surface rides on the guide pin at one end of the case while a spring is disposed on the guide pin at the other end of the case. The guide pin has a collar close to one end that prevents the spring from slipping off that end of the guide pin. The collar also prevents the guide pin from passing through the hole at that end of the case. The spring keeps the stopper wedge pressed toward one side of the case while at the same time keeps the guide pin collar pressed toward the other side of the case. A metal plate pressed into the bottom of the case prevents wear of the case as the stopper wedge rides against the bottom plate during use. Assembly is facilitated by a downward incline toward the outside is formed on the lower portion of the hole on the case wall into which the stopper end of the guide pin is inserted.

The spring extends through the bore of both shafts. The first shaft, second shaft, spring, and the rubber cap are coaxial. The door stopper is screwed into a wall via the base screw such that a bottom surface of a head of the base screw is in contact with the surface of said wall. A swung door first hits the rubber cap which covers the second shaft. The force is then transmitted to the spring which is contained within the two shafts, such that the second shaft moves along the first shaft towards the wall, compressing the spring which is contained within both shafts; thus causing the spring to absorb all of the energy transmitted from the swung door.

  • Patent number: 5136121
Abstract: Disclosed is a cable terminal with improved features. Drop wires are sealed by a flexible sheet with an array of slits provided on a major surface of a pair of plates. The slits are positioned and oriented so that when the plates are in a closed position, the sheet will overlap to produce a pair of angled slits at each drop wire location. The housing forming the terminal block enclosure and a portion of the cable housing is made from a single molded piece with holes for mounting different types of terminal blocks. The terminal block enclosure is covered by a door which provides moisture protection when closed. A spring attached to the door keeps it in an opened position while a craftsperson is working on the blocks. The cable housing includes end pieces which accommodate a number of different sealing options for the cable.

  • Patent number: 5018244
Abstract: A hinge device having a bearing member and a shaft. The bearing member has a sleeve section having a through hole, in which the shaft is inserted. The inner circumferential surface of the sleeve section contacts the circumferential surface of the shaft. The sleeve section has slits which extend parallel to the axis of the sleeve section. Ring springs are mounted on the sleeve section. In their non-expanded state, the springs have an inside diameter smaller than the outside diameter of the shaft. The ring springs tighten the sleeve section onto the shaft, thus generating a frictional force between the sleeve section and the shaft.

The assembly consists of a conventional butt hinge having two cooperating hinge plates joined together by a hinge pin fitted into the aligned cylidrical knuckles formed on the adjoining ends of the two hinge plates and a flat tempered spring steel plate sized to fit against the hinge plate mounted on the casement and positioned between the casement and the hinge plate. The spring steel plate has a plurality of flat fingers or extensions each sized to press against one of the cylindrical knuckles of the hinge plate which is mounted on the door.

  • Patent number: 4920609
Abstract: A door closer is set forth having a housing, a plunger rod in the housing with a plunger at the inner end of the rod, and a main spring around the rod between the plunger and a housing end for urging the rod into the housing. An actuator carried at the housing end with an opening for the rod and mounted for transverse sliding motion relative to the rod, with a spring for urging the actuator into a latch space in the rod is utilized. With the door closer connected to a door, the actuator slides into the latch space when the door has been opened, to hold the door open. A further opening movement raises the actuator out of the latch space and a sleeve maintains the actuator raised, permitting closing of the door.

  • Patent number: 4830151
Abstract: A damper for damping rotation has a construction in which a rotor having a braking plate immersed in oil disposed within a casing and a gear are coupled together by a means of a clutch spring in the form of a coil spring. When the gear is rotated in one direction, it is coupled with the rotor as a result of diametrical contraction of the spring, and a restoring force is stored within the clutch spring, thus producing a resistance against rotation. When it is rotated in the opposite direction, the restoring force of the clutch spring is released so as to permit free rotation of the gear. The coil spring is coiled about a shouldered portion of the rotor shaft and a lower portion of a gear sleeve, supporting the gear, which have the same diametrical extent. In this manner, projecting end portions of the spring, upon which excessive loads have been impressed within the prior art, are able to be eliminated thereby providing extended service life to the spring and damper assembly.
