Abstract: The present invention covers a door hinge equipped with a damper spring, composed of two cylindrical bodies, kept in place by their anchor plates with the door, respectively the door frame. One of the cylindrical bodies forms a watertight chamber by way of sealing plugs, inside which a piston is mounted, held laterally in the cylinder by longitudinal guides which prevent the piston from rotating. Said piston has a threaded axial bore by which it is mounted on a journal with a wide screw pitch, the journal being the end of an axial shaft which passes through a central perforation in one of the sealing plugs of the watertight chamber. All this is so designed that the turning of the second cylindrical body of the hinge caused by its being fixed to the door by its respective anchor plate, creates a torsion stress in a spring, while at the same time turning the axial shaft in the watertight chamber filled with oil-hydraulic fluid.

  • Patent number: 4489640
Abstract: A piston and geared rack assembly are moved by pressurized air in opposite directions within a power cylinder housing as the vehicle operator registers door closing and opening commands in a solenoid valve. This lateral movement is converted to rotary movement by a pinion gear driven by the rack and coupled to turn a spindle shaft which drives the door. At full stroke during door closing, the power piston actuates a valve to charge the lower chamber of an auxiliary cylinder to move a lift piston rod, movable within the spindle shaft, to raise the closed door into a locked position. Upon a door-open command, the solenoid valve exhausts the charged cylinder chambers, admits air into the upper chamber of the auxiliary cylinder to move the lift piston and rod to lower and release the door, and slowly charges the associated opening chamber. This enables the delayed movement of the power piston and rack assembly in the opposite direction, reversing the rotation of the pinion and spindle shaft, to open the door.

  • Patent number: 4426752
Abstract: A rotary damping device has a shaft provided at one end with a rotor and the shaft also has a damping portion extending radially. The shaft is rotatably housed and accommodation spaces in the device are filled with oil. Located near to the opening of the shaft bearing is a radially extended sucker-shaped flange having a surface sloped axially forward. When the flange is contained within the accommodation space the rim portion of the flange presses against the front wall of the space to prevent damping oil leaking from the housing.

  • Patent number: 4376323
Abstract: An automatic door closer comprises a closer shaft connected to a door for turning therewith and being turnably mounted in the region of one end of an elongated fluid-filled housing. A cam disk fixed to the closer shaft cooperates over rollers carried by a slide to move the latter and a piston rod fixed thereto during opening movement of the door in a first direction. A first piston arranged in the housing divides the latter into a first and a second pressure space and is connected to the piston rod passing through a bore in the first piston for moving therewith in the first direction to thereby reduce the volume of the first pressure space while increasing the volume of the second pressure space. A coiled compression spring arranged about the piston rod biases the first piston to move in a second direction opposite said first direction. A second piston fixed to the free end of the piston rod projects beyond the first piston into a cylinder space formed in a plug closing the other end of the housing.

  • Patent number: 4285094
Abstract: A door closing apparatus includes a housing member defining a cylinder for receiving a reciprocable piston member. The housing also defines an opening for receiving a rotatable pinion meshing with teeth on the piston. The apparatus also includes a linkage assembly for operatively connecting the door closing apparatus between a door and a door frame. This linkage includes a drive member for rotating the pinion bidirectionally in response to respective opening and closing of the door. An adjustable biasing assembly is provided for urging the piston in a predetermined direction within the housing cylinder, and the housing is sealed to receive a predetermined amount of oil or other fluid for hydraulically regulating the piston motion. To achieve this regulation, the housing includes an arrangement of interconnected fluid carrying channels and one or more valve members are mounted in cooperation with the channels.

  • Patent number: 4231134
Abstract: The closing mechanism of an automatic door closing arrangement is partly enveloped by an elongated unitary casing of sheet metal. Flanges on two of the longitudinal casing walls bound therebetween an opening in the casing which may be closed by a panel releasably retained by the flanges. Provisions are made for attaching the casing to a door and for linking the output element of the closing mechanism to a door frame. The panel may be removed simply and without tools for access to the mechanism or for replacement by another panel of different decorative appearance.

  • Patent number: 4180888
Abstract: A door closer includes a horizontally disposed inner cylinder receiving oil therein, an outer cylinder surrounding the inner cylinder and receiving gas and oil in an annular spaced defined around the inner cylinder, a piston slidably fitted in the inner cylinder, a piston rod secured to the piston and extending out of the cylinders for connection to a door, a passage disposed at one end of the inner cylinder for communicating the interior of the inner cylinder with the annular space, a valve member movably mounted on the piston rod and normally at a position spaced from the piston for cooperating with the passage so as to reduce the effective passage area of the passage in the end portion of outward movement of the piston rod relative to the cylinders.

  • Patent number: 4075734
Abstract: A door closer has an inner cylinder receiving a piston slidably therein, an outer cylinder surrounding the inner cylinder to define a space therebetween, which space communicates with the interior of the inner cylinder at the opposite ends thereof, a piston rod extending from the piston out of one end of the inner cylinder and for connection to a door to urge it to the closed position, a valve mechanism disposed in the other end of the inner cylinder to control oil flow between the interior of the inner cylinder and the space. The door closer is mounted horizontally and a portion of the space is filled with high pressure gas.

  • Patent number: 4073033
Abstract: A door closing device of the type having a piston and cylinder is described, the piston being movable within the cylinder under the bias of a spring and being connected to an arm mechanism which is arranged to transmit movement of the piston into pivoting movement of a door and vice versa, the device including a number of by-pass channels arranged to bring portions of chambers separated by the piston into communication with one another, whereby to limit the speed of flow of a dampening medium contained in the cylinder and passing through the channels as the piston is reciprocated.
