Abstract: A retractable cover for architectural openings having collapsible vanes includes a support structure in the form of a sheet of material, monofilaments, tapes, ribbons, cords, or the like, supporting an upper edge of a plurality of vertically spaced, horizontally extending vanes with the lower edges of the vanes in most embodiments of the invention being connected to operating elements adapted to raise the lower edges of each vane toward the upper edges to define openings or gaps between the vanes through which vision and light can pass in an open condition of the covering. Variations of the covering do not require movement of a lower edge of a vane relative to an upper edge but simply movement of some vanes relative to other vanes. The vanes can be made of materials having different flexibilities and where more rigid materials are used, creased fold lines can be established for desired operability.

Abstract: An example of a horizontal side-moving door with a side-winding or horizontally translating curtain includes an upper seal comprising an upper edge of the curtain sliding within a groove of a seal guide. To protect the door in the event of an impact, at least a portion of the curtain's upper edge can restorably pull out from within the groove. To avoid damage in certain situations, the seal guide might resiliently deflect as well. After an impact, the curtain's upper edge is automatically fed back into the groove by simply opening and closing the door. During normal operation, the curtain's upper edge advantageously deflects in response to air pressure against either side of the door. Abstract: A stowable partition assembly for a truck cab provides privacy for an interior sleeping area mounted aft of the operator space. The assembly has an overhead track depending from the cab ceiling, oriented to define a border between the forward operator area and the aft interior sleeping area. A pair of curtains are hung from their upper edges from the overhead track and are positionable on the track to divide the aft living space from the forward operator space when extended. A pair of stowage compartments are located at each end of the track along the interior sides of the truck cab to receive the curtain when retracted. Retraction of the curtains is provided by roll up retractors disposed in each stowage compartment. The curtains are each attached along one of two vertical edges to the roll up retractor to be wound thereon. An interlocking latch provides closure of the curtains when pulled from the stowage compartments.

Abstract: Safety blinds for installation in an opening in a building such as a door or window includes a closure covering the opening, a plurality of projections along the side edges of the opening and a plurality of corresponding apertures along the side edges of the closure, whereby locking the projections into the openings prevents the closure from opening and also prevents the side edges of the closure from being displaced from the side edges of the opening. In another embodiment, the projections from the closure cooperate with a continuous channel along the edge of the opening whereby the projections can move within the channel for opening and closing the closure and can be locked in position for again preventing the closure from being opened.

  • Patent number: 5944086
Abstract: A curtain edge tensioning assembly comprised primarily of a portion of the curtain extending across the leading edge of the door. The curtain portion is releasably coupled to a guide extension extending beyond the leading edge of the door and engaging guide members to guide the door in a plane. The guide extensions also engage the guide members to restrict the guide extensions from moving toward the center of the curtain. The releasable coupling between these horizontally restricted guide extensions and the resilient member places a tension on the curtain portion. The curtain portion is thus stretched across the door, and serves as a wind retention bottom bar or edge that also substantially conforms to or deflects around an obstruction, thus preventing or minimizing damage to the door, the bottom bar and the obstruction.

  • Patent number: 4854363
Abstract: A device has at least two longitudinal uprights (1, 2) each of which is made up of a series of juxtaposed aligned discrete sections of a given section member through which a throughway longitudinal cavity and grooves parallel to the cavity are defined. An elongate connecting device extends through the cavities of the sections and maintains them in alignment and assembled to one another. These uprights (1, 2) support transverse members (41) of an intermediate structure (30), the transverse members being engaged in the grooves of the sections. Fixing devices slidable in the grooves of the sections fix the transverse members (41) in position. Each upright may have rectilinear parts interconnected by at least one curvilinear part. The rectilinear parts consist of a single section of the section member while the curvilinear parts consist of a plurality of small sections (10a) of the section member having end faces that are convergent toward the center of radius of the desired curve.

Abstract: A truck tonneau cover assembly (10) of the rollable storage type is disclosed as including a pair of elongated guides (22) and a cover (36) with slats (44) that move along converging front ends of the guides to provide the cover with an upwardly curved shape upon unrolling from a storage roll (34) so as to thereby be capable of shedding water. Enlarged side edges (38) of the cover (36) are received within grooves (24) of the guides with the cover extending through restricted guide slots (26) into these grooves to seal the cover edges and prevent the shed water from entering the truck bed (12) with which the cover assembly (10) is utilized. The guides (22) also have rear ends (30) that diverge such that the rear edge of the closed cover is straight and thus sealable with the vehicle truck tailgate (20). Antifriction bearings (48) mount the slats (44) on the guides (22) for forward and rearward movement along the truck bed.

  • Patent number: 4126174
Abstract: A flexible sheet rollup window structure used in conjunction with a conventional window sash frame as an auxiliary or storm window. The invention includes an elongated sheet of thin, flexible plastic material (vinyl) which is designed to be supported and stored or dispensed by means of elongated spring rollers. An auxiliary guide roller is provided to direct the film into a straight-line plane. A lower end of the sheet of material is provided with a structurally rigid edge lockable structure, with the support roller and guide roller being mounted at the upper end. A horizontal sealing element is secured to a surface of the film and is automatically brought into sealing engagement with the upper end of the window frame when the sheet is placed in a closed position with respect to the window frame. Additional sealing of the sheet of material is effected by longitudinally extending, vinyl sealing strips or ribs that are dielectrically welded to one surface of the sheet adjacent each longitudinal edge thereof.
