Nested Helical Springs Patents (Class 160/316)
  • Publication number: 20150047795
Abstract: A roller shade including a flexible sheet member having opposite parallel first and second edges, and a roller shaft rotatable in each of two opposite directions of rotation. The flexible sheet member being attached along its first edge to the roller shaft, while the second edge of the flexible sheet member is freely depending from the roller shaft. The roller shade further comprises a counterbalancing device for balancing a portion of the flexible sheet member that is unwound from the roller shaft. This counterbalancing device has means for storing a variable torque that is complementary to a variable weight of the portion of flexible sheet member that is depending from the roller shaft. The means for storing variable torque includes a helically wound tension spring operatively interposed between a stationary central rod and the roller shaft.

  • Patent number: 6123140
Abstract: Elastic means for rolling up a roller curtain include a plurality of springs (26,27,28) fastened rigidly to a common support (15) connected to a shaft (2) and with respective support and constraint elements (36,37,38) which are geometrically coupled to the roller (19). A device for connecting the springs to a stationary frame (35) of the curtain (20) reduces the number of springs torsional turns with respect to the number of turns of the roller (19) by interposition of a speed reducer between the shaft (2), to which the springs are fastened, the stationary frame (35) and the roller (19). The shaft (2) end is located closer to the most external support and constraint element (36) and its extremity has a disc (11) mounted thereto. The coupling device together with the springs (50), their supports (15,36,37,38), the shaft (2) and an external support cylindrical body (6) form a compact assembly, which is introduced into one head of the roller (19).

  • Patent number: 5964426
Abstract: A roller for rewinding and tensioning a flexible element, the element having a greater length than width, includes a tubular body to which one end of the flexible element is fixed; a shaft positioned so that it is coaxial to the tubular body, the two being attached in such a way that they may rotate relative to one another about a shared axis; at least one helical spring driving element made of wire, housed in the tubular body, the ends of the spring being connected, by means of support and connecting parts, to the shaft and the tubular body so as to contrast the reciprocal rotation in the direction of unwinding of the flexible element, at least one of the support and connecting parts being able to slide along the axis of the roller on relative guides so as to position itself along the shaft, adapting each time to the variations in the axial length of the spring driving element, the variations being caused by the unwinding and rewinding of the flexible element on the roller.

  • Patent number: 5711568
Abstract: A retractable cover for a vehicle cargo area includes a roller containing a bungee cord, operative as a retraction mechanism. The covers are fabricated of an opaque cloth or vinyl material, or a transparent or screen material. The covers may be deployed longitudinally across the cargo area, or vertically towards the top of the vehicle. A housing may enclose multiple rollers and provide openings to deploy the covers. The retractable cover is simple and inexpensive, and provides multiple capabilities for varying users' needs.

  • Patent number: 5275223
Abstract: A support roller having a one-piece construction which can be cut to size to fit any sized doorway, with an outer perimeter of the support roller or flanges mounted on the support roller having a predetermined configuration to permit a rolling door, gate and the like to assume a substantially circular configuration when rolled up on the support roller, the support roller or each of the flanges being provided with a longitudinally extending recess therein and a longitudinally extending bulge portion thereon for securely mounting an end of the rolling door, gate and the like thereon, where the recess and the bulge portion of the support roller or a rail member provided within the support roller engages with collar portions of the roll-up mechanism to prevent relative rotation therebetween so that the support roller rotates with the collar portions The roll-up mechanism includes a coil spring mounted between the collar portions in such a manner that the innermost collar portion winds up the coil spring when the

  • Patent number: 3955611
Abstract: An awning construction particularly adapted for mounting on a mobile home. The awning includes an awning shade having one end fixed to an outside wall of the mobile home, and the other end of the awning shade is attached to an awning roller, which roller is pivotedly connected to the same outside wall. The awning roller includes an elongated torque rod which is nonrotatably connected to a pair of support arms. The support arms are pivotedly connected to the outside wall. A tube is rotatably mounted on the torque rod and is secured to the other end of the awning shade. A torsion spring connects the torque rod with the tube to rotate the tube relative to the torque rod and holds the tube up against the wall of the mobile home in its normal condition. A lock releasably locks the tube relative to the torque rod to allow the tube to stay selectively in an extended position away from the side wall.
