Abstract: Protective shrouds for temporarily protecting window assemblies, bathroom fixtures, and diverse prefabricated modules used in construction. The shrouds are fabricated from translucent plastic sheet material of polypropylene or polyethylene. A lower open port is selectively blocked by a foldable ventilation panel held in a deployed state by magnets. Rear mounted adhesive strips affix the shroud to the window. Top and side strips are bifurcated to enable rapid adjustments in height and length. When the tear away strips are removed, the exposed adhesive surface is pressed upon the target structure. Slight dimensional adjustments are made by pinching the sheet together, forming creases aligned with strip bifurcations, to gather material and shorten the shroud length or width. During subsequent dry-walling, shroud edges are captivated by wall board segments. Afterwards, the exposed junction between covered shroud and adjacent sheet rock portions is cut, and the shroud is torn away and discarded.

  • Patent number: 5706878
Abstract: A curtain-supporting unit of a snap-in, snap-out type comprising a plurality of rods interconnected to form a sturdy curtain-receiving framework, with the rods residing essentially in a coplanar relationship. This curtain-receiving framework is adapted to support a curtain and to be installed as an integral curtain-supporting unit on or adjacent the frame of a window. This novel framework is utilized in combination with an array of rod-receiving clips of resilient construction mounted in a spaced, substantially planar relationship adjacent the window frame, with the clip array defining a configuration closely approximating the configuration of the curtain-receiving framework. Each of the clips has an entrance portion of reduced size, enlarging into a portion configured to closely receive and retain a respective portion of a rod of the framework that has been thrust into the clip.

  • Patent number: 5657809
Abstract: A security device for obstructing movement of children or animals through an entryway includes a barrier mounted on a frame. The frame is made of substantially linear and rigid bars which are pivoted together to form one collapsible parallelogram which extends substantially entirely across the entryway. A movable pressure member is mounted on a vertical bar of the frame for laterally outward movement when the vertical bar moves down relative to the pressure member. To facilitate collapse of the frame to a position where all of the bars are parallel, each of two diametrically opposed pivots has its axis inwardly offset from the longitudinal axis of one of the bars it interconnects, and the barrier member is a net in which rectangular openings are formed by members which are substantially parallel to the bars. A frame-supporting hinge has a generally vertical hinge axis to permit horizontal swinging movement of the device.

Abstract: A lightweight, low cost shower door assembly for enclosing a tub or shower enclosure having sides and a base. It includes an upper support member adapted to be positioned against opposing sides of the enclosure and a lower support member adapted to be positioned against the base of the enclosure. A door in the assembly includes a flexible rod connecting first and second frame members. The first frame member is connected to the upper and lower support members and positioned for movement about a vertical axis. The flexible rod is bowed to apply an upward force on the second frame member in order to maintain it in releasable connection with the upper support member. In use, a section of replaceable fabric or vinyl extends across the frame members in order to provide a water barrier for the door.

  • Patent number: 5203055
Abstract: A cover gripping assembly for securing a flexible cover to a side member of a frame. A marginal edge portion of the cover is frictionally gripped between the inner surface of an elongated channel member having an inwardly facing C-shaped arcuate sector defining an elongated cavity, and the outer surface of an elongated rod when the latter is received in the cavity. The outer surface of the rod is generally congruent with the inner surface of the C-shaped arcuate sector. The frictional gripping force of the gripping assembly on the cover may be enhanced when tension on the cover is increased by providing the channel member with an outwardly facing C-shaped channel member for causing a body portion of the cover to be folded back relative to the marginal edge portion of the cover. The inner surface of the inward C-shaped arcuate sector or the outer surface of the rod, or both, may be provided with a plurality of longitudinally-extending ribs for frictionally engaging the cover.
