  • Publication number: 20030024668
Abstract: A manufacturing process for a two-layered facing 1 includes: a front material preparation step 11; a backing material preparation step 21; and a molding step 31. The backing material preparation step 21 includes the following steps: a papermaking step 22 in which short fibers and pulp material are blended and made into a paper, the paper is then coated with a binding agent and dried to obtain a paper sheet 4; and a winding step 23 in which the paper sheet 4 is cut into a tape-like form and rolled into a ring shape to obtain a backing molding material 5. In the molding step 31, the two-layered facing 1 is manufactured by laminating together a front material 2 manufactured in front material preparation step 11 and the backing molding material 5 manufactured in backing material preparation step 21 and thermally molding the two materials together while applying pressure.

Abstract: A laminate integrated by firmly jointing a heat-seal layer in web form made from a mixture of synthetic pulp having a branched configuration and synthetic short fiber to a substrate layer made from natural fiber. The synthetic pulp is made from a resin composition comprised of ethylene-&agr;,&bgr;-unsaturated carboxylic acid copolymer and polyethylene. This laminate has a high degree of air permeability and exhibits a high heat-seal strength and good hot tack even at a temperature of 130° C. On account of said properties it is adequately used as heat-seal paper suited for filter use, in particular raw material paper for tea bags.

The chemical pulp used comprises a chemical softwood pulp having a elastic modulus close to that of the mechanical pulp and a great bonding strength. It is preferred to use a chemical softwood pulp which produces a sheet having a elastic modulus of less than 6000 N/mm2 when the bonding strength is 400 J/m2. A pulp of this kind has a good ScottBond strength at the same light scattering. The base paper produced by the method can therefore be used in double-coated fine papers which require a large bonding strength of the base paper.

  • Patent number: 6051104
Abstract: A one-ply paper tissue product and a method of making a one-ply paper product combining high strength and softness along with low sidedness. The paper tissue product exhibits a sidedness parameter of less than 0.3 preferably, less than 0.225, a tensile modulus of no more than 32 grams/percent strain, a GM MMD of no more than about 0.225, and a cross directional strength of at least 200 grams per 3 inches. In stratification tissues, these properties are obtained by control of stratification, particularly, chemical stratification and stratification of furnish when appropriate. The tissue has a sidedness parameter value of less than 0.3, preferably, about 0.15 to about less than 0.225. In homogenous tissue, these properties are obtained by adding a strength enhancing agent to separate furnish sources prior to the funish sources being combined, and further, optionally adding the softener to the nascent web.

Abstract: Multi-layered tissue paper webs comprising biodegradable chemical softener compositions and binder materials are disclosed. The multi-layered tissue webs are useful in the manufacture of soft, absorbent paper products such as facial tissues and/or toilet tissues. The multi-layered tissue paper products contain a biodegradable chemical softening composition, preferably comprising a mixture of an ester-functional quaternary ammonium compound and a polyhydroxy compound. The multi-layered tissue paper webs also contain an effective amount of binder materials to control linting and/or to offset the loss in tensile strength, if any, resulting from the use of the chemical softening compositions. Preferably, the majority of the biodegradable chemical softening compositions will be disposed on the outer layers of the multi-layered tissue paper products where they are most effective at enhancing softness.

Abstract: The improved creped non-laminar singular web structure comprising long fibers and short fibers demonstrated by high TWA and Z peeling. Creping causes a certain portion of long synthetic fibers and short fibers to substantially be oriented in a predetermined vertical or Z direction across the thickness of the web structure. In particular, when a stratified preparation containing wet stiff CTMP fibers is used, the vertically oriented CTMP fibers increase the total water absorption (TWA) of the web structure without collapsing. The high TWA print/double-creped paper products manufactured from the above web structure are suitable for heavy wipe and dry uses.

Abstract: A suspension of bacterial cellulose having a reticulated structure has been conditioned to remain in suspension when the suspension is under shear so that it may be coated on a substrate. The suspension of bacterial cellulose is homogenized and thereafter filtered to provide a bacterial cellulose component having a size no greater than 125 microns. This allows a process for applying bacterial cellulose as a coating on a substrate on a substantially continuous basis, either by roll coating or spraying.
