The oil evacuation arrangement has an inlet opening located such that a major portion of the excess oil expelled from between the belt and the shoe element passes through the inlet opening with a kinetic energy that is substantially undiminished from the initial kinetic energy of the oil as it exits from between the belt and the pressing surface of the shoe element.

  • Patent number: 6328852
Abstract: In manufacturing a moving web, such as a tissue sheet, the web is transported at very high speeds, often in an unsupported manner, which can result in unstable operations regarding handling and winding of the web. This is particularly true in the region between the creeping blade and the reel for a lightweight, low modulus tissue sheet that is characteristic of a high-quality, soft tissue base sheet. To provide an improved means of controlling the tissue web during manufacture and to improve the manufacturing rate, an apparatus and method of stabilizing the moving web that incorporates a creeping blade foil, one or more aerodynamic sheet stabilizing foils, and a roll foil in a specific relationship to each other is disclosed. This method has been shown to improve the stability of a moving tissue web, allow for a higher rate of operation, and enable the production of softer tissue basesheets.

A scanning device scans a transverse position of the traveling screen and an adjusting device adjusts the angular orientation of at least one of the support and guide rollers. The adjusting device is supported on one side on a displaceable bearing block which is supported on a carriage. Between the control device for the bearing block of the displaceable roller and the scanning device, a coupling is provided by which a return of the control motion of the roller to the scanning device is effected. The coupling is formed by a Bowden cable, by a hydraulic circuit with control cylinders, or by an electric circuit with control devices.

  • Patent number: 6280573
Abstract: Pressurized web treatment systems include a moving web that passes through a pressurized treatment chamber having a sealing assembly with a leakage control system. Leakage control is achieved by the cooperative effect of localized leak detectors and leak reduction means that applies a local sealing force on the seal assembly responsive to a signal from the leak detectors such that increased sealing occurs in the vicinity of the leak. In particular, an air press for paper web dewatering has improved efficiency by virtue of the leakage control system, which features local leak detectors and local force generation means associated with a flexible seal assembly to reduce leakage at the edges of the stationary plenum of the air press. Local leak detection can be based on sonic measurement with microphones, detection of escaping tracer gas, optical signals, and other means.

  • Patent number: 6254730
Abstract: The invention provides a novel impact angle changing shower for spraying a fluid upon a moving belt surface while the belt travels at a selected belt velocity. The shower includes nozzles journaled to rotation about an axis in a plane normal to the belt surface and transverse to the belt direction. The nozzles are continuously supplied with pressurized fluid and direct a fluid stream at a selected nozzle velocity and nozzle angle relative to the plane. The orientation of the nozzles is selected to optimize the desired function namely, to clean the belt surface without damaging the belt fabric or felt, or to penetrate the belt to increase fluid absorption by the belt. The fluid stream nozzle velocity can be decomposed using vector mathematics into two vector components: a belt velocity vector component parallel to the belt direction; and a belt impact velocity vector oriented at an impact angle defined relative to the normal transverse plane.
