Adjustable Width Patents (Class 162/366)
  • Patent number: 6982025
Abstract: An adjustable resilient blade support for use in the forming section of a papermaking machine. The blade support is adjustable, both to allow the attached blade to be moved from a position where it is out of contact to a position where it is pressed into contact with the adjacent forming fabric, and to permit adjustment of the blade orientation relative to the surface of the forming fabric. The blade support is also resilient, and thus allows the blade to respond to transient localized changes in the path of the forming fabric with which it is in contact. The adjustable resilient blade support of this invention is thus of use in an open surface forming section, and also is of use in forming sections in which two forming fabrics are used.

  • Patent number: 6916404
Abstract: A method and an apparatus for web threading in a drying section of a paper machine or the like. A leader (24) and a so called run-down strip are formed by cutting in the web coming to the drying cylinder in the drying section. An underpressure box (18) is arranged at the opening gap between the drying cylinder (14) and the drying wire, on that side of the wire which is away from the web, whereby this box can direct against the web an underpressure which is controllable in the machine's cross direction. The underpressure box creates an underpressure region (34?) between the leader and the underpressure box, the region having an underpressure p1 at the detachment point, i.e. in the area where the wire is detached from said drying cylinder (14), which underpressure is sufficient to detach the leader from said drying cylinder.

Abstract: A process, and an apparatus, for improving sheet properties in a twin fabric paper making machine forming section whereby pressure pulse generation in the stock can be controlled. The pressure pulses are controlled by mounting a vacuum assisted skimmer blade (15) supported by an adjustable resilient support means (18) so that its height can be altered, and so that it can respond to transient changes in the stock layer thickness. The resilient and adjustable support means (18) itself is supported by a vacuum drainage box (10), which serves to capture at least the major proportion of the fluid skimmed of by the skimmer blade (15). This apparatus the position of the skimmer blade (15) to be altered in two ways without stopping the paper making machine. The skimmer blade (15) can be located either so that it is out of contact with the forming fabric (3), or so that it can be in contact with the forming fabric.

  • Patent number: 5858175
Abstract: A suction box for a machine for manufacturing a fiber web extends transverse to the travel direction of a porous belt and applies suction to the belt and the fiber suspension on the belt. The suction box has an open side toward the belt. At least two and more usually a plurality of support strips contact and extend transverse to the travel direction of the belt. Each adjacent pair of strips defines a suction slot. At one or both lateral side zones of the belt, a respective filler limits each slot, and the fillers establish the length of the slot across the belt. A respective filler extension extends inward from each of the fillers. The extensions are pervious to the fluids being suctioned, such as water and air, by being narrowed or wedge shaped or by being perforated. The fillers with their extensions are adjustable in position transverse to the direction of travel.
