Charging And/or Discharging Fibrous Material Patents (Class 162/52)
  • Patent number: 7396434
Abstract: A continuous and batch system to produce cellulose, native lignin and unicellular protein from any form of vegetation in a closed process. The biomass is mixed in the impregnate solution of nitric acid and/or ammonium hydroxide and water. After a period of time at room temperature and atmospheric pressure the chemical solution is recycled. The biomass is moved to the reactor and heated. Evaporated impregnate is recovered via absorption tower and recycled back to chemical solution. The biomass is moved to an alkaline solution, then cooled to separate pulp from black liquor. The black liquor is pumped to a separation tank and is treated to precipitate lignin. The solution is filtered to separate sweet liquor and lignin. The lignin is dried and the sweet liquor is fermented to produce unicellular protein.

  • Patent number: 7396435
Abstract: Methods for conveying, mixing, leveling, and flaking dewatered pulp to produce pulp flakes suitable to be used in a dryer. Methods for producing a consistent flow rate of pulp, and, for producing uniform pulp flakes in terms of pulp flake size and pulp flake moisture content. A method includes introducing a dewatered pulp to a rotating shaftless screw conveyor. The pulp is deposited from the screw conveyor onto a moving belt conveyor through a chute. The pulp is leveled with a rotary doctor located above the belt conveyor to produce a substantially even rate of mass flow of pulp along a length of belt conveyor. Uniform and consistent quantities of pulp per unit time can then be fed from the belt conveyor to a pulp flaker that then translates into an even rate of pulp mass flow to the dryer.

  • Patent number: 7381302
Abstract: The method and an arrangement are for improved impregnation of chips in association with the manufacture of chemical cellulose pulp. Un-steamed chips are fed into an impregnation vessel (30) in which a fluid level (LIQ_LEV) is established under the highest level (CH_LEV) of the chips. An improved impregnation arrangement for the chips is obtained by the addition of impregnation fluids (BL1/BL2/BL3) with increasing temperatures at different heights (P1, P2, P3), and by the establishment of a counter-flow zone (Z1) in the uppermost part of the impregnation vessel. The requirement for steaming may in this way be dramatically reduced while at the same time the amount of expelled waste gases may be minimized. A major part of the volatile compounds present in the wood are bound to the impregnation fluid (REC) that is withdrawn.

Abstract: The method is for bleaching cellulose pulp in a bleach line that has at least two bleaching steps. The filtrate distribution is led up through the bleaching line counter-currently to the flow of cellulose pulp established in the bleaching line. A single joint main conduit is used for the bleaching steps. Wash filtrates obtained from the wash steps, used after or before the bleaching step, are led in conduits to branch locations on the main conduit that are positioned downstream of the branch location for drawing off of wash and/or dilution liquor for the wash step in question. All branch points in the joint main conduit are in fluid communication with one another along the main conduit.

Abstract: The arrangement is for the adjustment of wear of the position of the rotor of a sluice feeder within a feed casing. The rotor has the form of a truncated cone and the play between the rotor and the surrounding casing is adjusted depending on the wear between the rotor and the casing through the rotor being axially displaced a predetermined displacement. A complete driving unit, motor and gear box are suspended on the journal of the rotor. The driving unit receives support from a torque support in the form of a beam fixed in the casing. The complete driving unit accompanies the rotor shaft during adjustment and makes contact with the torque-absorbing beam through sliding bearing supports.

  • Patent number: 7351305
Abstract: The digester and method are for the continuous cooking of pulp. At least two withdrawal positions (11E, 11D) for cooking fluid are arranged at different heights in the digester (10). The cooking fluid in the first and second position is withdrawn after the chips have had a retention time that differs by at least 10 minutes. The differential pressure between the positions is determined and when this exceeds a pre-determined level, a connection (17E) opens between these positions, establishing a flow parallel to a flow of cooking fluid between these positions in the digester. Several withdrawal positions are preferably connected in a common shunt system (17A-17F), with valves (18A-18F), controlled by the differential pressure, that are located between adjacent positions.

  • Patent number: 7270725
Abstract: The method is for the manufacture of cooked cellulose pulp in which the starting material, preferably chips, undergoes a successive increase in temperature towards cooking temperature. This is done while the chips are first treated in a pre-treatment zone in which the main part, greater than 50%, of fresh white liquor necessary for the cooking stage is added, after which this alkali-rich treatment fluid is withdrawn and replaced to a major extent by black liquor. The alkali-rich treatment fluid that has been withdrawn after the pre-treatment stage is then added to the cooking stage, which is why the addition of fresh white liquor to the cooking stage is reduced to an equivalent amount. Maximal yield-enhancing effect is obtained using poly-sulphide-rich white liquor during the pre-treatment at a temperature in the interval 60±40° C. and retention time in the interval 2-60 minutes, preferably 2-10 minutes.

A fraction of the transport fluid (10) from the transfer system (4) that is continuously withdrawn from the impregnated chips fed into the top of the digester is returned to the impregnation vessel (1) at essentially maintained transfer temperature, at a location before the said transfer system (4), seen from the point of view of the direction of flow of the chips.

Abstract: A continuous pulp digester having an elongate horizontally aligned pressure vessel through which the wood chips and digesting fluid flow in a forward direction. In a first and second embodiments within the pressure vessel there is an inner container defining an elongate chamber or passageway having a square cross sectional configuration. In a third embodiment the digesting chamber is cylindrical. At locations along the digester, there are several pair of liquid flow inlets and liquid flow outlets which enable filtrate from a pulp washer and a digesting agent to be moved into and across the digesting chamber to flow out the flow outlets. These are recirculated in a net upstream flow pattern toward the outlet end of the digester, and discharged as black liquor at different locations in the digester.

Abstract: Processes and systems are provided for cooking wood chips containing knots in a digester to produce a chemical pulp. Specifically, a low pressure slurry of comminuted cellulosic fibrous material is formed in a vessel operating at essentially atmospheric pressure by mixing therein a liquid and the comminuted cellulosic fibrous material. The low pressure slurry is thereafter supplied to a low pressure inlet of a high pressure transfer device while liquid is removed from the slurry through a low pressure outlet thereof. A high pressure liquid is supplied to the transfer device (e.g., via a slurry pump) so as to form a high pressure slurry of the comminuted cellulosic material which is then discharged from a high pressure outlet of the transfer device. Knots are removed via a knot separator from a slurry of uncooked knot-containing cellulosic material at essentially atmospheric pressure.

Abstract: A pre-treatment device for wood chips for pulping comprises a tube through which the wood chips fall into a digester. Steam is injected into the tube through rings of nozzles, which are angled circumferentially to impart a rotary and turbulent motion to the falling chips. Some nozzles are angled downwardly to encourage the chips to flow freely through the tube, some are horizontal to encourage a longer dwell time near the nozzles. Digesting liquor is also sprayed onto the chips from spray nozzles after the first ring of steam nozzles. The heat and steam expel air and other non-condensable gases and volatiles from the chips, allowing them to absorb the liquor. At the bottom of the tube, the chips are propelled down and outwards by jets of higher-pressure steam, spreading and packing them into the digester.
