Abstract: A method and an apparatus for separating lignocellulose particle fraction (3) and lignin particle fraction (4), in which crude lignin (1) formed from starting material (6) comprises lignocellulose particles and lignin particles. The method comprises adding stabilizing chemical (11) and/or hydrophobic chemical (12) into the crude lignin (1) in at least one step, and treating the crude lignin by separating the lignin particle fraction (4) and lignocellulose particle fraction (3) from each other in at least one separation step (2,8,9,10). Further, a lignocellulose particle fraction and a lignin particle fraction and their uses.
Abstract: A system for collecting ligno-cellulosic biomass over a large area to enable the commercial refining of biomass from 2,500 to in excess of 50,000 tons of biomass per day to produce ethanol or other products. The biomass is collected at a series of collection points and then transported through a network of conduit “loops” interconnecting each of the collection points and the central refining plant. The water used to transport the biomass, as a slurry, is recovered and sequentially recycled in the same pipeline system to push the biomass slurry around the system in a “loop.” The outgoing and return legs of each loop optionally are located adjacent each other.

Abstract: The use of low specific gravity wood from thinning operations, for example, will produce a lower brownstock viscosity for a given kappa number target. A differential of 200-cP falling ball pulp viscosity has been detected from Kraft cooks of low and high specific gravity wood. Using low specific gravity wood can reduce the bleach stage temperature and the chemical dose needed in the bleach plant to produce lyocell pulp specifications. Low specific gravity wood also increases the ability to reduce pulp viscosity to very low levels without increasing the copper number of the pulp or the concentration of carbonyl in the pulp above acceptable levels.

Abstract: The invention relates to a method of detecting a radar target, especially a sea target, in the presence of clutter caused by ocean waves in particular. To detect a radar target within a predeterminable region, first a measurement window corresponding to this region is formed in the video range of the radar system, and a frequency distribution is determined for all pulse-height values (amplitudes) within the measurement window. The average value and the standard deviation can be determined from the distribution; from these values, a hit-recognition threshold is determined and used to decide whether a pulse-height value is to be associated with a radar target to be detected.
Abstract: A method for making a shaped product comprising exploded bark. Preferably the shaped product comprises exploded softwood bark having at least 23% cellulose and at least 18% lignin and polyphenols content, based upon the dry weight basis of the bark. One of the methods to make the shaped product comprises exploding softwood bark to obtain exploded softwood bark having at least 23% cellulose and at least 18% lignin and polyphenols content, compressing that exploded bark into a shaped product, while removing in part water, and drying the shaped product to remove the remaining water.

Abstract: Paper pulp is prepared from dicotyledonous plants by stirring said plants in an alkaline solution in the presence of a surfactant and stain inhibiting agent to obtain a stock containing a woody core fraction and a bark fraction containing bast fibers, separating said fractions and then cooking and bleaching the bark fraction in an alkaline solution containing an oxidizing agent and an alkyl sulfate surfactant.
