  • Patent number: 10213828
Abstract: A method for producing a casting by pouring a metal melt by gravity into a gas-permeable casting mold having a cavity comprising at least a sprue, a runner and a product-forming cavity, comprises pouring a metal melt into a desired cavity portion including the product-forming cavity through the sprue, the melt being in a volume smaller than the volume of an entire cavity of the gas-permeable casting mold and substantially equal to the volume of the desired cavity portion; supplying a gas to the desired cavity portion through the sprue before the desired cavity portion is filled with the poured melt, so that the melt fills the desired cavity portion and solidifies; the gas being supplied from a gas-blowing nozzle fit into the sprue.

  • Patent number: 6932144
Abstract: A method of casting an object, usually a railroad wheel, is provided. A graphite mold having a drag section and a cope section requires a plurality of riser openings in the cope section to ensure proper dimensional accuracy of the cast railroad wheel by allowing molten metal to continue to feed downwardly through the riser openings to the cast wheel cavity during initial cooling. The riser openings are lined with an improved insulating material in an accurate manner such that the insulating material is added between a machined riser opening in the graphite cope mold section and a mandrel inserted in the riser opening.

  • Patent number: 5429055
Abstract: A drive element for rail-guided load carriers of an overhead conveyor system in which the driver, which is mounted on the drive element via a hole, has a horizontal groove which extends outward from the hole. Too high a horizontal force acting on the driver causes the drive to be pulled off of the pin. Thus, the drive element which is continuously driven via a drive chain can travel past a conveyor carriage which is blocked in the direction of conveyance without the drive element or the conveyor carriage being destroyed. In order to prevent a driver that has been pulled off of the pin from doing any damage, it is secured via a wire bow which is inserted into a continuous hole provided on the driver. If the overhead conveyor system is developed with branches and a pusher is arranged on the conveyor chain behind each conveyor carriage for pushing the conveyor carriage onto a branch, the pusher claw can be developed in the same way as the driver.

  • Patent number: 4474114
Abstract: A conveyor for moving a number of goods carriers (22) along a track has a drive device provided with a driver member (59) operating with a reciprocating movement which can entrain the goods carriers in the desired transport direction and move freely in the return direction. The track consists of a hollow profile (1) with a groove (11) which in the longitudinal direction of the track firstly has fully closed sections and secondly is provided with sections having a side aperture (62). Plugs (26, 32) are inserted in the fully closed sections and between the plugs cylindrical spaces (40) are formed which enclose a piston (36) with a piston rod (38) which extends beyond the cylindrical space. In the open sections members (24) which can move along the groove are provided, these members being combined with piston rod (38) and provided with the carrier devices (59) which are accessible through the side aperture (62).

  • Patent number: 4212345
Abstract: A device for forming a sprue or vent hole in a foundry sand mold. The device includes a body having a central bore and having an air outlet in the upper end of the body communicating with the bore. An axial opening in the lower end of the body has a smaller diameter than the bore. Mounted for movement within the body is a pin or plunger which has an enlarged head that is slidable within the bore and a lower stem which is slidable within the opening. The pin is urged outwardly of the body by a spring, and a seal is located between the stem portion of the pin and the wall of the body bordering the opening. The pin is formed with an internal passage, one end of which is located at the inner end of the head of the pin and the other end of the passage opens at the side of the stem.

  • Patent number: 4034795
Abstract: A vertical type machine for continuously forming casting molds at high pressure. The machine is supported by a bed plate and has stays extending vertically with a stationary upper frame connected to the stays. An upper mold frame is fixed to the stays while the lower mold frame is mounted on the stays for vertical reciprocation. A match plate is supported on the stays intermediate the upper and lower mold frames for movement in and out of closing engagement with the upper mold frame. The lower mold frame is mounted on horizontally extending rails on its support so that it may be moved into and out of alignment with the upper mold frame. An upper piston-cylinder actuator is mounted of the stationary frame for vertically displacing an upper squeeze plate, and a lower piston-cylinder actuator is mounted on the bed plate for moving a lower squeeze plate vertically.

  • Patent number: 4000772
Abstract: The upper part of a casting mold is produced in apparatus which includes a mold table and a mold presser plate between which the casting mold is compressed. A pattern plate is positioned on the mold table and a feed hopper introduces mold forming material into a mold box arranged on the mold table. The feed hopper includes a premolding member which has a location and dimensions generally corresponding with a sink pattern member located on the presser plate in order to form a depression for a sink in the upper part of the mold. A sprue is formed by means extending between the pattern plate and the sink pattern member which includes a compressible spring which is compressed by the sink pattern member when the mold is compressed between the presser plate and the mold table.

  • Patent number: 3955614
Abstract: A foundary molding machine which for the simultaneous separate production of two foundry mold parts possesses two mold units provided with a respective match plate support and a sand filling- and compaction station. Each of the mold units has operatively associated therewith a pivotal device incorporating pivotal arms pivotable about vertical shafts in a respective horizontal plane. The pivotal arms carry mold frames supported in mold frame holders which they pivot from the sand filling- and compaction station, while rotating the mold frame containing the mold lower part through 180.degree. about a horizontal axis, into a position wherein both mold parts are in superimposed position at an attachment or assembly station where both of the mold parts are deposited on top of one another onto a conveyor mechanism.
