  • Patent number: 8251124
Abstract: A molding machine that defines upper and lower mold cavities while cope and drag flasks, having a match plate sandwiched therebetween, are rotated from a horizontal position to a vertical position. An upper squeeze member is insertable into the cope flask. A pressure-applying plane of the upper squeeze member defines an upper mold cavity together with the match plate and the cope flask. A pivoting frame supports the cope and drag flasks, having a match plate sandwiched therebetween, and the upper squeeze member, such that they rotate in unison between a horizontal position to a vertical position. A fixed filling frame abuts the drag flask when the cope and drag flasks are in the vertical position. A lower squeeze member has a pressure-applying plane that is oriented horizontally. The pressure-applying plane of the lower squeeze member defines a lower mold cavity together with the match plate, the drag flask, and the filling frame.

  • Patent number: 5163497
Abstract: A sand mold forming machine has a cope frame aligned above a drag frame with a pattern arranged between, and within, the frames. A sand filling is positioned in each of the frames. The sand fillings are compacted by squeeze plates overlaying the open, upper and lower ends of the cope and drag respectively. The squeeze plates are moved towards each other to compress the sand within the frames and against the pattern. Each of the squeeze plates is made of numerous, separate sections that are mounted upon a movable platten. The sections, of each plate, may move together as a group by moving the plattens or, the sections may be individually moved, relative to the plattens. Thus, pre-selected area of the sand fillings may be compacted more or less, as desired, than adjacent areas by separately moving opposing sections relative to the overall squeezing movements of the squeeze plate.

  • Patent number: 5070928
Abstract: A forming press, such as a foundry squeeze press, includes an axially movable bolster having locking hooks for engaging trunnions on a replaceable forming tool, such as a foundry sand squeeze board, to releasably secure the tool against the bolster and yet permit quick change-over from one forming tool to another to accommodate production of different workparts (e.g., mold copes or drags). The hooks are pivoted by a linear screw device to first positions wherein they are engaged with the trunnions. The hooks have pivot axes offset from the trunnion axes in such a manner as to impart such a component of motion along the bolster axis to the hooks when they are pivoted to the first positions as to tightly clamp the tool against the bolster. The hooks are pivotable by the linear screw device to second positions disengaged from the trunnions to free the forming tool for removal from the bolster.

  • Patent number: 4143700
Abstract: A molding machine is disclosed which has a parting line of the molds at an acute angle to the horizontal. A continuous molding machine is disclosed wherein particulate matter such as sand and a binder is used to provide a succession of molds with cavities therebetween into which molten metal is poured to make a casting. The sand mold is constructed using a molding chamber and first and second pattern plates carrying patterns which face in opposite directions relative to the molding chamber. The sand is invested and the mold cured or hardened, then the pattern plates are withdrawn along opposing paths which are non-coincident. The completed sand mold is moved from the molding machine into a core setting area whereat cores are moved along the axis of the cavity which is at an acute angle to the horizontal for easy setting of these cores in prints of the mold cavities. Sprue and vent openings may also be drilled in this core setting area.
