This machine also includes a cylinder for raising and lowering the lower squeezing board, a driving mechanism that includes pneumatic and hydraulic piping systems for driving the cylinder using an air-on-oil system, and a controller for controlling the driving mechanism. The drag flask, the matchplate, the filling frame, and the lower board define a lower molding space, while the matchplate, the upper board, and the cope flask define an upper molding space such that the controller controls the driving mechanism to drive the cylinder at a low pressure. The lower squeezing board is raised to squeeze the molding sand for simultaneously making the two molds such that the controller controls the driving mechanism to drive the cylinder at a high pressure.

    Abstract: A blow head or gassing head of an automatic core machine, which produces sand casting cores in a core box is formed of a downwardly opening box-like frame having a bottom closure plate. The heads may be alternatively used to respectively deposit a sand and binder material or to flow gas into a sand-filled core box cavity positioned beneath the head. The closure plates are provided with openings through which either the sand-binder material may drop from the blow head frame into the core box cavity or through which gas may flow from the gassing head frame into the cavity. The plate is loosely positioned beneath the frame and is clamped tightly upwardly against the bottom peripheral edge of the head by a spaced pair of elongated, rigid rails which engage and support the opposite side edges of the plate. A rail holding a clamping mechanism selectively moves the rails upwardly for clamping the plate against the frame and downwardly to free the plate relative to the frame.

Sectionalized vertically movable rods extend through bushings at the top and bottom of the frame. Fixed to the rods are a cope support and a secondary table. The secondary table supports the cylinder of a cope-drag clamp piston-cylinder assembly with the rod of such assembly being connected to a primary table thereabove which slidably moves on the rods. The secondary table and the rods secured thereto are elevated independently of the cope-drag clamp so that the clamped cope and drag may be elevated to be clamped against the blow head, lowered for interposition of a gassing head, and reclamped for cure, all while the cope and drag remain firmly clamped together. Only after curing are the cope and drag unclamped for lowering, stripping and removal of the core from the machine.

    Abstract: A core or shell blow (shoot) machine, equipped with a quick core-box change device, makes it possible to carry out a quick core-box change in just a few minutes, thereby reducing down time. For this purpose, the core-box change device consists of a twin carrier which is swung hydraulically in a horizontal plane about a vertical axis. The care-box in the machine, after picking up the cope and the cope ejector plate, is lowered by the lift table into the carrier, after hydraulic clamps between the table and the core-box bolster have been released. The core-box change device is then rotated 180.degree., which swings the old core-box out of the machine and, simultaneously, swings the new core-box stack-up into the machine over the lift table. In the meantime, the old blow-plate is removed from the sand magazine, outside of the machine, using the blow-plate removal device.

    Abstract: As in the parent application, a freshly mixed quick-setting sand mix is blown from a blow box into a mold while a plunger moves through the blow box to chase all of the fluidized sand into the mold. Here, the blow box sand cavity is formed by a tube extending downward but leaving an annular gap above the blow plate. The fluidizing air tends to move bottom sand directly through the center exit in the blow plate. With quick setting sand, any residue is blown into a purge pan while the plunger is advanced. With sand that is not quick setting, and without the plunger, nearly all residual sand settles and tends to be the first blown into the mold during the succeeding blow.
