Patent number: 4136529Abstract: In a self-contained air conditioner unit of the reversible type having cooling and heating cycles, a no-drain heat pump is provided wherein in the cooling cycle condensate water collected on the indoor heat exchanger operating as an evaporator is transferred to the outdoor section of the unit where it is atomized and directed through the relatively warm outdoor heat exchanger operating as a condenser. In the heating cycle, water collected on the outdoor heat exchanger operating as an evaporator during heating is transferred to the indoor section. The condensate is directed into the air flow circulating through the indoor section where it atomizes and passes through the relatively warm indoor heat exchanger to humidify the air.Type: GrantFiled: October 3, 1977Date of Patent: January 30, 1979Assignee: General Electric CompanyInventor: William J. Patent number: 4129179Abstract: A gaseous source of waste energy, including heat, is passed through a gas to liquid heat exchanger and then a chiller to agitate a water bath and produce evaporation of water for cooling. The heated transfer liquid is passed through a heat exchanger to heat makeup air or the like, while, alternatively, chilled water from the chiller is passed through the heat exchanger to cool the makeup air. The source of waste energy, including heat, is normally a grease extraction ventilator mounted to receive fumes and heated air from cooking equipment. Any other source of waste energy is normally suitable, such as heated air which has risen to the upper portion of a large room or enclosure, such as an auditorium, theater, meeting hall or the like. The heated air removed from such a position is adapted in part to be recirculated, but all of it may be used to furnish heat for heating fresh makeup air. Several forms of chiller, including specialized double compartment chillers, are disclosed.Type: GrantFiled: November 21, 1977Date of Patent: December 12, 1978Assignee: Stainless Equipment CompanyInventor: Victor D. Patent number: 4125148Abstract: A gaseous source of waste energy, including heat, is passed through a gas to liquid heat exchanger and then a chiller to agitate a water bath and produce evaporation of water for cooling. The heated transfer liquid is passed through a heat exchanger to heat makeup air or the like, while, alternatively, chilled water from the chiller is passed through the heat exchanger to cool the makeup air. Supplemental heating, as by a furnace, or supplemental cooling, as by refrigeration, may be utilized when called for.Separate heat exchangers, as for separate areas, are alternatively supplied with heated transfer liquid or chilled water, or one or more supplied with heated transfer liquid and one or more others supplied with chilled water. The source of waste energy, including heat, is normally fumes and heated air from cooking equipment passed through a grease extraction ventilator.Type: GrantFiled: April 22, 1977Date of Patent: November 14, 1978Assignee: Stainless Equipment CompanyInventor: Victor D. Patent number: 4098852Abstract: A gas/liquid heat exchanger is provided which comprises means for circulating gas and/or liquid and a plurality of hollow fibres, adapted to receive said gas or said liquid, said fibres being of polymeric material which is inert with respect to said liquid and are permeable to said liquid. Such a heat exchanger considerably improves the efficiency/volume ratio of the appratus, largely as a result of the liquid which permeates through the fibres vaporizing.Type: GrantFiled: May 1, 1975Date of Patent: July 4, 1978Assignee: Rhone-Poulenc, S.A.Inventors: Gilbert Christen, Bernard Favre, Xavier Marze, Michel Salmon

Patent number: 4054623Abstract: A cooling system for circulating a fluid past a heat-exchanger comprises a vertical surge column and a cooling tower to reduce the heat level of a circulating fluid for delivery to the surge column. The cooling tower is mounted on the surge column which is adapted to support substantially the entire weight of the cooling tower. Heat-exchanger coils are provided which are coupled to the surge column to receive the circulating fluid therefrom and to return the circulating fluid to the cooling tower. There is also provided a circulating device which is operatively coupled to the surge column, cooling tower, and heat-exchanger coils to circulate the circulating fluid therebetween.Type: GrantFiled: September 24, 1975Date of Patent: October 18, 1977Inventor: Michael Ouska

Patent number: 4030476Abstract: A cabinet that maintains heated food at a constant temperature by circulating heated air including means for controlling moisture in the circulating air. A top mounted blower forces the heated air through a louvered panel over pans of food; the louvers are graduated to assure even distribution of air. A water reservoir is employed which includes baffling to prevent water from being spilled when the reservoir is moved, the baffling also permits control over the amount of moisture absorbed by the circulating air.Type: GrantFiled: March 5, 1976Date of Patent: June 21, 1977Assignee: Bevles Co., Inc.Inventor: Lester R. Patent number: 3963461Abstract: Air contaminated with combustible dust particles is removed and subjected to a high density air scrubber which safely removes the fine combustible dust particles from the contaminated air. The resulting water saturated, cleansed air is mixed with a continuously regulated amount of drier outside air until a desired absolute humidity is achieved, the regulation being responsive to the relative humidity changes within a work area in which the humidity is to be controlled. The air mixture is then conveyed into the work area which imparts a known temperature rise thereto. The temperature rise lowers the relative humidity of the air mixture to the desired level.Type: GrantFiled: September 18, 1974Date of Patent: June 15, 1976Assignee: Gamewell Mechanical, Inc.Inventors: William F.
