  • Patent number: 11629564
Abstract: A retrievable seal guide (RSG) for installing a seal stem in a polished bore receptacle. The RSG has an outer grapple. Inside the grapple is a mandrel. At the end of the RSG is a bullet nose guide. The mandrel is spring loaded with a spring placed under the grapple Near the rear end of the guide is a plug with an o-ring. Note that the bullet nose has an opening formed in it. A channel is also formed down the length of the device. Note too that for tight formations of non-perforated liners the plug can be replaced with a stainless-steel ball that acts as a check valve. As the RSG is pulled out, the guide is pulled back, which compresses the spring forcing the mandrel back until a cam clears the collapsible fingers on the grapple, which allows the RSG to be withdrawn.

  • Patent number: 10125575
Abstract: An alignment device for a sliding sleeve in a housing in a tubular string features a patterned alignment ring that remains stationary. The sliding sleeve in one of its end positions has a mating profile such that profile misalignment results in profile alignment as the sliding sleeve is axially advanced toward the alignment ring. In a choke application the fully closed position of the choke brings the profiles together to induce relative rotation into an aligned configuration of the ports on the sliding sleeve with the ports on the surrounding housing. Misalignment can occur when tools are run through the sliding sleeve for other downhole operations and the design parameters for the choke prevent the use of alignment lugs in axial slots. The mating profiles do not reduce the drift dimension through the sliding sleeve and allow higher housing pressure ratings for deep set applications with large operating differential pressures.

  • Patent number: 9133674
Abstract: A downhole tool actuation system has a fluid path defined by a bore formed within a tubular body of a tool. A reciprocating sleeve is located within the bore and the sleeve has a segmented seat with a fluid by-pass. At least one seat segment is positioned by an outer diameter of the sleeve to complete the seat, and a relief is formed in a wall adjacent the outer diameter of the sleeve. When the seat is occupied by an obstruction, only a portion of the fluid path is obstructed and fluid impinging the obstruction causes the sleeve to move in the direction of flow until the at least one segment is relieved by the relief thereby releasing the obstruction.

  • Patent number: 9133692
Abstract: A fracturing and gravel packing tool has features that prevent well swabbing when the tool is picked up with respect to a set isolation packer. An upper or multi-acting circulation valve allows switching between the squeeze and circulation positions without risk of closing the low bottom hole pressure ball valve. The multi-acting circulation valve can prevent fluid loss to the formation when being set down with the crossover tool supported or on the reciprocating set down device and the multi-acting circulation valve is closed without risk of closing the wash pipe valve.

  • Publication number: 20150075772
Abstract: There is provided a system for effecting production of formation fluids from a subterranean formation. The system includes a gas anchor for mitigating gas lock. Sealing engagement of the gas anchor against the wellbore tubular is effected without use of a conventional packer, which would otherwise be susceptible to receiving debris deposited from the formation fluid, which thereby results in the packer, as well as the gas anchor, becoming vulnerable to becoming stuck within the wellbore tubular.

  • Publication number: 20140238699
Abstract: An annular seal for use in a wellhead assembly has inner and outer legs that each extend in a direction that is generally parallel with an axis of the seal to define an annular space therebetween. Wickers are provided on an outer surface of the seal, so that when the seal is energized and the legs are urged radially apart from one another, the wickers engage with a mating surface of a downhole tubular. Embedding the wickers into the tubular creates a flow barrier across the interface between the seal and the tubular. The wickers deform the surface of the tubular, which creates a lock down force that opposes relative axial movement of the tubular.

Abstract: A packoff assembly for sealing a space between an inner well member and an outer well member. The packoff assembly has a packoff body, and a sealing mechanism with a U-shaped cross-section, including a packoff body leg and a well component leg extending substantially downward from a transverse connecting section. The well component leg is elastically bendable so that it resists inward deflection toward the packoff body and so that the sealing mechanism can be set without the use of an energizing ring. The packoff body leg is configured for engagement with the packoff body, and the well component leg has a sealing surface configured for sealing engagement with the inner or the outer well member.

  • Patent number: 7708074
Abstract: A flow control valve for use in a downhole completion tubing string, where the control valve prevents cross flow between producing zones. The control valve comprises a housing forming a plenum therein, a tubular member having a perforated end disposed in the housing, and a plug assembly disposed in the end of the tubular member having perforations. The plug assembly comprises a shaft reciprocatingly disposed in the tubular member. Produced fluids flow within the tubular member, through the perforations to the plenum, and outside of the control valve through corresponding perforations formed in the disk and housing. When pressure in the completion tubing string exceeds produced fluid pressure, the plug will close thereby preventing fluid flow from the completion tubing to the tubular member.
