Guiding Or Aligning Feature Patents (Class 166/85.5)
  • Patent number: 6354380
Abstract: An apparatus for guiding wireline into a well bore comprising an insert bowl, the insert bowl having a substantially vertical groove formed in an interior surface thereof. A rotation means is preferably provided on the insert bowl, the rotation means configured and positioned to rotate against a wireline and maintain the wireline substantially in the groove when the insert bowl is positioned in a rotary table of a drilling platform, to thereby prevent damage to the wireline during wireline and drilling operations. The rotation means preferably comprises a support member and a wheel rotatably disposed in the support member, the support member being attached to a top of the insert bowl above the groove. The wheel is preferably configured as a sheave having a concave rim.

  • Patent number: 6293347
Abstract: Apparatus and method are provided for protecting a reciprocating polish rod from suffering circumferential scoring when it is rotated by a rod-rotator while misaligned and in contact with the carrier bar of a pump jack. A cylindrical sleeve is inserted through the bore of the carrier bar and any additional stacked components supported thereon. An upset at the top of the sleeve retains it within the bore of the carrier bar and any stacked components. The bottom end of the sleeve extends substantially to the bottom of the carrier bar. The polish rod is installed through the bore in the sleeve and can slide and rotate therein. The polish rod is suspended from the carrier structure with a rod clamp. The sleeve guides the polish rod through the carrier structure without permitting accidental contact of the polish rod and the carrier structure and thereby prevents circumferential scoring of the polish rod when the rod is rotated by the rod-rotator.

  • Patent number: 6283203
Abstract: An apparatus for preventing pipe buckling when downwardly directed axial forces are applied to a pipeline (3) which extends from a derrick (1) down into a well bore, especially when snubbing. The apparatus comprises two sets of pipe supports (8) linked together to give a continuous chain (10), which is arranged to extend from a respective guide rail (6, 7) in the derrick (1) to the pipeline (3), and the pipe supports (8) are movably arranged in the guide rail (6, 7) parallel to the pipeline (3). The guide rail (6, 7) extends in a general U-shape with the U-bend (6c, 7c) located closest to the lower end of the derrick (1) and comprises two legs (6a, 6b, 7a, 7b), of which a first leg (6a, 7a) is arranged close to the pipeline (3) and a second leg (6b, 7b) is arranged at a greater distance from the pipeline. The pipe supports (8) are designed to be placed in the first leg (6a, 7a) when operative, and are designed to be transferred to the second leg (6b, 7b) when they are to be rendered inoperative.

  • Patent number: 6273188
Abstract: A trailer (10) has a dropped center section (12) defining a well (16) for a coiled tubing reel (22). A mast (30) has a pair of posts (34) on which a carriage (32) is mounted for movement along posts (34). An injector head (36) is supported on carriage (32) for pivotal movement in a vertical plane relative to mast (30) and for horizontal movement along a tubular support member (38) of carriage (32) relative to mast (30). Mast (30) is pivotally mounted on the rear end of trailer (10) for movement away from trailer (10) for positioning over a wellhead. In a stored position, mast posts (34) fit alongside the ends of reel (22) so that to the total height of the stored coiled tubing rig is no more than 13½ feet for over the road travel.

  • Patent number: 6223819
Abstract: A wellhead for use with a surface mounted pumping unit operating a rod string extend to a downhole pump in a well. The wellhead includes a body having a bore for a rod string, a support rod assembly moveable across the bore for coupling with a rod string having a coupling flange to provide a rod string hanger and a releaseable lock operable with the rod string. The wellhead also comprises a hydraulic seal in the body around the bore to seal with a rod string through the bore. Blowout preventer rams in the body for closing off around the rod string through the body and closing off the bore through the body when no rod string is present. A securing structure at the opposite ends of the body secures the wellhead with a rod string operator above the wellhead and to secure the wellhead with a casing flange on a well.

  • Patent number: 6216780
Abstract: A coiled tubing injector includes two chains mounted for continuous, opposing rotation and aligned to grip between the continuous tubing. Behind a portion of each chain is a straight skate that presses gripper elements on the chain against the tubing as it passes between the chains. The skate includes a beam. Rollers are mounted on carriers, and the carriers slide into slots formed on the beam. A resilient pad is placed between the carriers and the beam. The gripper elements roll over the rollers as they are being pressed against the continuous tubing. Dimensional variations in gripper elements, rollers, and the roller carriers that may otherwise cause grippers to be out of alignment are accommodated by compression of the pad. Furthermore, the last roller at each end of each skate is mounted for pivoting against a spring in order to deflect as gripper elements turn into, or out of, alignment with the skate.
