    Abstract: The present invention relates to a fire extinguishing system that includes a self-extinguishing sandwich panel. The panel is provided with an insulation core, an outer skin layer, and flow pipes disposed within said core that have an inlet and an outlet. Sprinkler devices are secured to the outside of one side of the panel in holes executed in the outer skin layer of the panel. The sprinkler devices may be distributed spot-wise on the outside of the panel and may be connected to the flow pipes by splines that are situated outside of the panel in holes executed in the outer skin of the panel. The flow pipes receive a flow of water in the inlet from a water tank and, when the sprinklers become activated by detecting a fire, release the water through the sprinklers in order to suppress a fire.

    Abstract: To prevent corrosion, the pipes of a wet fire protection system (FPS) are purged of atmospheric oxygen by displacing in the pipes with an inert gas, such as nitrogen, prior to filling the pipes with water. After oxygen is purged from the pipes, they are filled with deoxygenated water which contains an O2 concentration of 500 ppb or less. The lack of dissolved oxygen in the deoxygenated water prevents O2 molecules from outgassing from the water into spaces within the pipe containing N2 gas. The dearth of oxygen in the system provides long-term corrosion inhibition. Oxygen may be purged from water by exposing the water to an inert gas (such as N2) having a sufficiently low O2 concentration.

A secondary air vent valve having an inlet and an outlet is provided. The secondary air vent valve is configured to vent air, but not water, from its outlet. A fluid conduit connects the primary air vent valve outlet with the secondary air vent valve inlet. The second air vent valve provides failsafe air venting upon the failure of the primary air vent valve. A fluid indicator may be provided that indicates the presence of fluid in the conduit. The presence of an appreciable amount of fluid in the conduit is an indication of likely failure of the primary air vent valve.

A high pressure pump extracts water and foam from a tank and sends it to a distribution vessel on top of the mast. An inverted sprinkler dish distributes the foam and water under pressure to top and sides of the building via the connected sprinklers and water booms.

    Abstract: A foam chamber of a fire suppressant system having a closable testing outlet is disclosed. The foam chamber can operate in a testing mode and an operation mode. The invention has an inlet conduit for accepting a fire suppressant fluid attached to an expansion conduit. An expansion enclosure having two closable outlets is also attached to the inlet conduit and surrounds the expansion conduit. One outlet empties into the expansion enclosure. The other outlet extends through the wall of the expansion enclosure and empties outside of the expansion enclosure. Both of the closable outlets can be fitted with either an unbreakable seal or a frangible seal. If the foam chamber is configured for normal operation, the unbreakable seal is placed on the outlet that extends through the wall of the expansion enclosure and a frangible seal is placed on the outlet that empties into the expansion enclosure.

    Abstract: Apparatus and method for converting a fire suppression system from a single interlock electric or double interlock electro-pneumatic system to a single interlock pneumatic system which draws no electrical power. A pneumatic actuator is in fluid communication with a pressurized piping network and a control valve controlling flow of fire suppressant to the network. The pneumatic actuator is isolated from the piping network by a check valve and a latching solenoid valve. In the event of a power failure the latching solenoid valve is opened, placing the pneumatic actuator in fluid communication with the piping network. Electrical power is drawn only to change the state of the latching solenoid valve, it otherwise draws no power. When the latching solenoid valve is open the pneumatic actuator controls actuation of the control valve, and triggers the control valve when there is a pressure change in the piping network indicative of a fire.
