    Abstract: Apparatus is provided for indicating when the water level rises to a predetermined height, of the type that includes a float assembly (44) with a float that rises along a guide of a fixed housing assembly (40) until an activator (74) on the float assembly activates a switch (70) on the housing assembly. The guide is in the form of a downwardly-extending post (42), and the float assembly includes a hollow shaft (52) that extends upwardly from the float and that surrounds the post. As a result, the sliding surfaces (60, 62) along which the float assembly slides upwardly along the post, is isolated from the environment to ensure reliable sliding despite a hostile environment that could damage any exposed sliding surfaces and prevent reliable sliding.

    Abstract: An fire protection system for use in shipboard magazines wherein electric at detectors in a ship magazine provide temperature data to a fire panel. Upon detection of predetermined threshold temperatures, the fire panel initiates an alarm system and activates a fire sprinkler valve to apply water to fire sprinklers in the magazine. Temperature data from the heat sensors and stored weapon response data are used by a damage control system to generate graphic display data showing thermal conditions in the magazine and estimated times and temperatures at which stored munitions will undergo thermal destruction.

    Abstract: A fire extinguishing apparatus is connected to the safety valve on an oil flooded rotary compressor to receive the contents expelled by the compressor due to internal combustion in the compressor. The contents are conducted to the fire extinguishing apparatus, which disperses them in a tank holding a quantity of non-combustible liquid sufficient to cool them. The fire extinguishing apparatus has a tank for holding non-combustible liquid, a perforated plate to disperse the burning oil and gases throughout the non-combustible liquid, an opening to allow the escape of excess pressure from the tank, and a spring loaded lid to prevent evaporation of the non-combustible liquid. A pipe connects the fire extinguishing apparatus to a safety valve and the pipe has temperature and pressure switches on its surface which shut down the compressor when the temperature and/or pressure in the pipe exceed preset limits.
