Attendant Supported Tool Patents (Class 172/41)
  • Patent number: 4213504
Abstract: A portable, hand-held apparatus or implement employing various interchangeable soil working assemblies, wherein the latter rotate about an axis oriented substantially normal to the soil surface, i.e., the assembly rotates in a horizontal plane parallel to the soil surface. The soil working assemblies selectively include soil engaging tine, auger, drill, etc., members which depend via integral support bases from a central guide rod. The guide rod extends along the axis of rotation of the soil working assembly, wherein the tip thereof engages the soil prior to contact therewith by the rest of the assembly. The apparatus contemplates various power source configurations, mutually interchangeable with the various soil working assemblies, dependent upon the operation to be performed, the existing soil conditions, etc. Thus the apparatus may include manual, electrical, gas, etc., power sources and may employ cultivating, mulching, weeding, boring, etc., assemblies.

  • Patent number: 4133389
Abstract: A hand-held, power driven cultivator includes a housing and cultivator blades which rotate about axes oblique to the vertical axis of the cultivator, the blades extending generally in planes which converge beneath the housing. The cultivator is driven by an electrical motor and has a power train which includes a speed reduction gear arrangement. The cultivator blades may overlap slightly as they rotate and may be formed of hardened metal or plastic. The housing of the cultivator is provided with a skirt which extends outwardly and downwardly about the sides and rear of the housing. The skirt is provided with lower depending side shield portions and a rear rake or spreading portion. The rear rake or spreading portion is formed with notches or teeth to smooth and spread cultivated dirt.

  • Patent number: 3964182
Abstract: A mechanical shovel comprises a digging tool, two booms and a harness. One of the booms is adapted to be mounted by the harness on and substantially parallel to the back of an operator so that the other boom extends forwardly of the operator. One of the booms supports a winding mechanism having a cable leading along the forwardly extending boom and attached to the handle of the digging tool. The handle of the digging tool is provided with means to activate the winding mechanism so that the shovel may be raised with the minimum of effort on the part of the operator. The combination of the two booms provides a particularly stable arrangement.

  • Patent number: 3958331
Abstract: A portable garden tool with an upper movable tool element which is provided with a blade having a plurality of cutting teeth and a lower tool element which is in two pieces so that one can be removed from the tool. The removable portion is either a shear blade attachment to perform with the upper tool element as a shear, or a cultivator attachment to perform with the upper tool element as a cultivator. The tool can also be used as a cultivator without damage to the performance of the tool as a shear, since the blades of the upper movable tool element are not sharpened.

  • Patent number: 3935905
Abstract: Gardening tool. A blade adapted to work the ground constitutes one side of a frame which is pivotably mounted on the housing of the tool about a shaft forming the opposite side of the frame. Drive elements within the housing are connected to a third side of the frame through transmission elements within the housing so as to impart to the blade a continuous pivotal vibratory movement. A detachable handle connected to the housing enables the latter to be handled. A cooling fan in the housing discharges air through orifices in the upper end of the handle.
