  • Patent number: 5335735
Abstract: A shank assembly for mounting on a tool bar of a farm implement includes an upper shank section having a lower portion with a generally transverse slot near a distal end thereof and a lower section having an upper portion. The lower portion of the upper section includes a slot adapted to receive the upper portion of the lower section. A ground working tool is fixedly attached to a lower extremity of the lower section. The slot has end walls formed into at least one cam surface which urges the ground working tool into simultaneous contact with both endwalls of the slot thereby locking the lower portion and the upper portion together against lateral motion in the slot.

  • Patent number: 5007187
Abstract: A snow plow member is attached to selected ones of the shanks of a cultivator frame by inserting the leading edges of the sweep at the lower end of the shank into slots formed on the rear surface of the snow plow member. A leading edge of the snow plow member follows the C-shaped curvature of the shank. The shank is clamped to the underside of the snow plow member. With such snow plow members attached to selected ones of the cultivator shanks, the snow plow members can be used to form furrows in the snow which acts to trap additional snow and to prevent the snow from being stripped from the field. The resultant increased accumulations of snow provide additional moisture retention for the field.

  • Patent number: 4759301
Abstract: A seed drill which will allow seed to be planted at a substantially constant depth regardless of contours and irregularities in the ground surface. The said drill has a tyne pivotally mounted on a frame for angular movement about a substantially horizontal axis transverse to the direction of travel. The lower end of the tyne being adapted to support a ground engaging tool with a seeding boot located rearwardly of the tool whereby the tool is arranged to form a furrow in the ground for seed discharging from the seeding boot. A spring biassing means acts between the tyne and frame for urging the tool into engagement with the ground. The spring biassing means is arranged to exert a biassing force on the tyne for counteracting the resistive force exerted on the tool as the tool traverses the soil whereby to maintain the tool at a substantially constant working depth in the soil.

  • Patent number: 4694759
Abstract: A seed drill for applying seed and/or fertilizer has a frame, reservoir, and sowing shares. The sowing shares are attached to the frame in such a way that they can move in an upright plane by means of superimposed and at least approximately parallel struts on parallelogram mounts. To essentially improve the share mounts, allowing them to be employed on direct-sowing seed drills and especially on soils thickly set with entrenched stones or other obstacles and preventing damage to the shares or share mounts when the shares are laterally overstressed, at least one strut on a parallelogram mount is elastic.

  • Patent number: 4660652
Abstract: A trip mechanism which allows the ground working tool of an implement to pivot about three orthogonal axes. The tool is connected to a shank which is attached to a carriage. The carriage is pivotally connected to the frame of an implement through a ball joint connection. Two arms extend from the carriage on one side of the ball joint and are connected to the frame thereby defining the working position. A hydraulic cylinder provides the necessary force to keep the carriage in its working position and allows deflection of the tool when an obstruction is encountered.

  • Patent number: 4452317
Abstract: A trip mechanism for a ground working tool connected to a frame. The frame is connected to a carriage using a three point connection. A pivotal member is provided in the frame and a tension member is connected between one arm of the pivotal member and the carriage. Compression springs are provided to act between a second arm and the frame. An obstruction exerting a predetermined amount of force on the ground working tool of the implement will allow the trip mechanism to be activated thus preventing damage to the tool. An adjustable stop is provided on the frame engaging the first arm when the apparatus is in its untripped position to adjust the untripped position of the second arm relative to the frame to vary the initial force required to trip the mechanism.

  • Patent number: 4036303
Abstract: A soil-cultivating machine has an elongated frame that extends horizontally and transverse to the direction of travel. A row of adjacent soil-working members are mounted on corresponding upwardly extending shafts which are geared to a common drive shaft and the members are driven in relative opposite directions to work a broad path of soil. Alternate soil-working members are slideable along beams of the frame so that debris does not jam the drive connections. The drive to the soil-working members includes an imput shaft to a gear box, which can comprise a reduction gear, and an elongated drive shaft that extends parallel to the frame and along which the slideable members are displaceable. The corresponding gears to the working members includes a pinion transmission on the drive shaft which is slideable within limits defined by an elongated key arrangement. Compression springs bias each slideable working member to a normal central position.
