Constant Height And V-shape Patents (Class 172/733)
  • Patent number: 8408324
Abstract: A residue clearing apparatus for a shank of an agricultural implement includes a spoked wheel adapted for attachment to the implement such that the spoked wheel rotates about a wheel axis oriented substantially horizontal and perpendicular to an operating travel direction of the implement and forward of the shank. A drive is operative to rotate the spoked wheel. The spoked wheel is oriented such that ends of spokes of the spoked wheel pass above the ground forward of the shank, and such that the ends of the spokes of the spoked wheel pass adjacent to a front face of the shank. The spokes may be resiliently or pivotally mounted to the wheel.

  • Patent number: 7059257
Abstract: The present invention relates to a knife for and a method of zero till or minimum till seeding and fertilizing. The knife is particularly adapted for dry land conditions producing minimum solid disturbance and very shallow operation. The knife has a high penetration angle preferably of 45 degrees which permits the blade to enter high trash surface cover with little tendency to plug due to trash accumulation. The blade has a forward angle of attack, the lower cutting edge advancing before the upper cutting edge, serving to make a clean cut in the soil surface without accumulating trash. Seed and/or fertilizer conduits are attached to or incorporated in the trailing face of the blade in which the outlets may be spaced for controlled placement of the materials. By the method a furrow is cut having a substantial transverse component in an operation with a substantial forward component.

  • Patent number: 7055619
Abstract: This invention is an apparatus for planting seed and injecting dry fertilizer (dry granular material) with an air seeder, chisel plow or cultivator with air seeder components while at the same time tiling the soil. The apparatus consists of a vertically oriented conveyance tube that directs the granular material into a groove formed by the apparatus by means of a knife mounted to the underside of a triangular configured bracket which also serves as the mounting structure. The seed and fertilizer are injected into the groove, below the compacted sweep layer (formed by the sweep shovel) and next to firm soil that does not dry out as would the loose soil above the sweep layer.

  • Patent number: 6986314
Abstract: This invention is an apparatus for planting seed and injecting dry fertilizer (dry granular material) with a V-Blade Plow while at the same time tilling the soil. The apparatus consists of a series of circular conveyance tubes that direct the granular material into a groove formed by the apparatus by means of a knife mounted to the underside of a metal plate which also serves as the mounting structure. The seed and fertilizer are injected into the groove, below the compacted sweep layer (formed by the blade) and next to firm soil that does not dry out like the loose soil above the sweep layer.

  • Patent number: 5921324
Abstract: The invention comprises an apparatus for clearing range land of sagebrush an other invading non-grazing plant species. The device is adapted to be towed by a tractor, and has a pair of blades arranged in a "V" configuration, with the point of the "V" facing forward. The device is adapted to float on the ground surface so as to not bind on immovable embedded objects. Removable knife blades on the lower, ground-engaging surfaces of the blades shear off or pull out brush. A roller having roller blades on the surface mulches the just-cleared land in preparation for seeding. A seeding apparatus may be affixed to the device to immediately apply native grasses and other forage plants.

  • Patent number: 5409068
Abstract: An agricultural plow implement includes a number of upright supports, with each support supporting a shallow tillage V-shaped sweep blade. A mounting plate is attached to the rear of each upright support and a specially adapted ripper shank, with an attached deep penetrating ripper blade, is attachable to each plate via a pair of bolts which extend through respective mounting bores in the plate. One of the bolts in each pair is a pivot bolt which provides a pivot point about which the ripper shank can swing. The other bolt is a shear pin which is designed to shear off should the ripper blade encounter an obstruction which might otherwise bend or break the ripper blade and/or the ripper shank. The ripper shank is adjustable vertically relative to the sweep blade and the ripper shank can also be pivoted 180 degrees between operative and non-operative positions when it is desired to do a sweep operation without soil ripping.

  • Patent number: 4828041
Abstract: Agricultural tilling implements are described. In some embodiments the implements are adapted for deep tilling of soil between growing row crops, in which embodiments a horizontal shield member is detachably secured to a depending shank. The front edge of the shield is sloped upwardly. The shield prevents soil from being thrown upwardly and onto the top of growing row crops during tilling between the rows. The shield also guides loosened soil around the base of growing crops in the rows. In one embodiment the implement includes downwardly depending plate members beneath the shield to urge soil outwardly from the shank to the row crops to form a hill in each row without covering the crops. In another embodiment a V-shaped ditcher is disposed beneath the shield for forming a trench or ditch between adjacent rows of crops. Both embodiments include adjustable wing members or deflectors at the trailing edge of each plate member to control the amount of loosened soil which is urged outwardly to the row crops.
