  • Patent number: 7044070
Abstract: A no-till drill with a novel walking beam assembly that allows the drill to be pulled over severe terrain conditions that include large rocks, fallen limbs and other large obstructions. The inventive walking beam assembly includes two independent pivot points that allow the cutting and opening disks to maintain substantially constant or continuous contact with the ground, such that the length of the furrow formed and seed deposited therein are maximized. A closing disk assembly is suspended from the rear of the drill independently from the walking beam assembly. • Patent number: 5573072
Abstract: An apparatus for adjusting the operating position of a cultivator tool includes a tool bar with a frame secured thereto, a tool arm pivotally mounting the cultivator tool on the frame, a bracket having a plurality of holes therein mounted on the frame, and a tiltable lever arm mechanism pivotally mounted on the frame. The latter includes a lever having a first end portion constituting a handle, a second end portion, and a detent pin adapted to engage the holes in the bracket. A spring assembly yieldingly urges or tilts the bracket and lever together so the pin normally engages one of the holes. A handle extension can be installed to apply additional leverage, if needed. When the second end portion is connected to the frame by torsional spring, the downpressure exerted on an implement mounted on the frame can be varied. In another embodiment, a linkage bar pivotally connects the second end portion of the lever with the tool arm and allows the apparatus to raise and lower the tool.

  • Patent number: 4079789
Abstract: An earth-working tool has mounting means at one end for attachment of the tool to the frame of an agricultural implement, a tool blade down the forward edge of the tool and attachment means at the other end of the tool for securing a tool point. The mounting means is so arranged that the tool may be attached to the frame in such a manner that the tool blade will form a rearward angle, from the top end to the other end, in relation to a line normal to the direction of forward movement which the tool will take during use, with the result that soil tilled by the tool point will be prevented from rising to the surface by the action of the rearwardly directed tool blade. Ideally the tool may be mounted so that the tool blade will be forwardly directed, either by reversing the tool or by providing alternative mounting holes for mounting the tool to an agricultural implement.

  • Patent number: 4054177
Abstract: A trip beam linkage for moldboard plow or other earth working tools which trips to clear obstacles such as rocks and the like and uses a sturdy, compact and reliable folding tripping linkage which permits reliable, high clearance tripping using tension springs. The linkage lengths are selected to permit reliance on a high spring force for initial holding, which is more reliable than over center or near center trip linkages. The folding linkage is positioned so spring expansion is kept to a minimum during tripping. The linkage can be adjusted to permit aligning the earth working tool. The working position of the linkage is determined by an adjustable stop.

  • Patent number: 4036305
Abstract: A plurality of plow units are mounted to a main frame of a plow system for rotation about their vertical axes. The plow units are spaced at equal lateral increments and at uniformly increased distances from a pivot connection between the main frame and a traction vehicle. The plow units are ganged together by means of a guide beam; and a power actuator controls the motion of the guide beam in rotating the plow units so that their cut lines take a predetermined position relative to the main frame. As the plow system is then used to plow ground, the main frame swings about its pivot connection to the tractor until the plow units line up with the direction of travel of the tractor, thereby adjusting the spacing between plow units automatically. The rear plow unit is mounted to a tail section which is pivotally mounted to the main frame and includes a rear wheel for supporting the distal end of the main frame and for steering the system as the tractor turns.

  • Patent number: 4003438
Abstract: A cultivator or harrow has two groups of tined soil working members in a row that are driven to rotate about upwardly extending shafts. Each group is located on an opposite side of a frame portion center from the other. Between each soil working member, a driving shaft is positioned and pinion gears housed in the frame portion to turn all the shafts of one group in the same direction, but opposite to that of the driving shafts and the other group. The driving shafts can be fitted with additional soil working members and those soil working members on upwardly extending shafts can be replaced with smaller supports so that adjacent soil working members rotate in opposite directions. Alternatively, the smaller supports can be fitted with extension structures and two groups of soil working members are again formed. A dispensing mechanism can be mounted on the frame portion to deliver material between a rear supporting roller and the tines.
