  • Patent number: 6680595
Abstract: It is an object of the present invention to overcome various drawbacks of a conventional oil pulse wrench by using an electric motor, to reduce a reaction force and to fasten a screw with high precision. To achieve the object, the invention provides a control method of a screw fastening apparatus using an electric motor as a rotation driving source, the method comprising the steps of; intermittently supplying current pulse DP to the motor, detecting an actual torque at predetermined time intervals, maintaining a current value when a detected torque value does not exceed a maximum value of past detected torques value and increasing the current value by a predetermined amount when the detected torque value exceeds the maximum value of the past detected torque value, and stopping the supply of the current pulse DP when the detected torque value reaches a target value TQJ.

Abstract: The invention relates to a method of opening joints of drilling components attached to a rock drill, and to a rock drill which enabling this. According to the idea of the invention, in striking compression stress, which proceeds towards a drill bit (10), is generated in the drilling equipment (5) by striking with a percussion piston. When the drilling components are struck off, the axial bearing included in the drilling machine does not substantially support the drilling equipment, but the compression stress generated by striking is reflected from the drill bit (10) as stress of the opposite sign and generates the desired tensile stress in the drilling equipment. After striking the threaded joints of the drilling components can be opened easier by rotating the rotating device in the opposite direction.

Abstract: An open end power wrench includes an operating scheme that identifies when the item within the drive socket is an item that should be rotated by the drive socket. The method for controlling the tube nut wrench includes the steps of operating the motor to generate an output torque. The method then measures an angle of rotation through which the drive socket rotates. The angle of rotation is then compared with an angle defined by the clearance opening. The output torque is limited to a minimal torque level when the angle of rotation of the drive socket is less than the angle defined by the clearance opening. The method then increases the output torque to an operating torque level when the angle of rotation of the drive socket exceeds the angle defined by the clearance opening.

Abstract: An arrangement for limiting the swing angle of a boom for a rock drilling unit when the boom is being lifted and lowered. In the arrangement, a control member is coupled to the boom, turning therewith. The control member includes a slot which receives a movable dowel pin. The dowel pin is coupled to control a relief valve so that when the boom is being lifted or lowered, and when it tends to turn outside a predetermined widest permissible swing angle, the control member controls the relief valve so that it lets hydraulic fluid into the swing cylinder for turning the boom in a reverse direction.

  • Patent number: 5713422
Abstract: The present invention provides a drilling system for drilling a borehole. A motor continuously coupled to the drawworks may be utilized to raise and lower a drill stem to continuously control the weight on bit at a desired value. A second motor rotates the drill stem. A control circuit is coupled to both the motors and receives information from various sensors which includes information about the rate of penetration, weight on bit; hook load, and rotational speed of the drill bit. The control circuit controls the drawworks motor to control the drill stem motion in both directions. In one mode the a desired rate of penetration is maintained by controlling the weight on bit. In another mode, the control circuit causes the drilling to start at an initial rate of penetration and then it starts to vary the rate of penetration according to programmed instructions to optimize the drilling efficiency.

  • Patent number: 5687801
Abstract: A cavity wall which is usually made with a hollow concrete block as the inner wythe and brick as the outer wythe is disclosed. A special purpose insertion tool is fitted to a standard hammer tool. A center pin is provided in the insertion tool made with an indent to match the pointed end of the tie. The pin is then pressed into the SDS fitting which is the connection into the drill. The tie end is supported by a short sleeve which, when it contacts the face of the wall, retracts against a spring until the tie driving is completed. A modified embodiment of the adapter recognizes that the tie when activated by the hammer invariably rotates clockwise. Accordingly, if the spring is wound clockwise, the bottom tail end will dig into its seat. On the other hand, if it is wound counterclockwise, it rotates in a "tail skid" relationship to the seat.

The tool is used in combination with a beam emitting device for emitting a radiation beam in a reference plane, and is provided with a housing held by an operator. The housing has a work member driven by an electric motor and a photo detector for receiving the radiation beam projected in the reference plane. Output signals indicating positional deviation of the photo detector from the reference plane are generated on the basis of output of the photo detector. Rotation of the motor is controlled as follows. Rotation of the electric motor is stopped when the radiation beam is received at a reference position of the photo detector. The electric motor rotates at high speed until the radiation beam is received in the vicinity of the reference position.

Abstract: A system and a method is provided for imaging desired surfaces of a workpiece. A sensor having first and second sensing electrodes which are electrically isolated from the workpiece is positioned above and in proximity to the desired surfaces of the workpiece. An electric field is developed between the first and second sensing electrodes of the sensor in response to input signals being applied thereto and capacitance signals are developed which are indicative of any disturbances in the electric field as a result of the workpiece. An image signal of the workpiece may be developed by processing the capacitance signals. The image signals may provide necessary control information to a machining device for machining the desired surfaces of the workpiece in processes such as deburring or chamfering. Also, the method and system may be used to image dimensions of weld pools on a workpiece and surfaces of glass vials.
