    Abstract: Disclosed is a high voltage electric appliance comprising electric coils whose conductors are wrapped by an insulating tape with subsequent impregnation of thermosetting resin for the electrical insulation. The insulating tape is a laminated body consisting of a built-up mica of fine mica particles and synthetic pulp or a paraffin powder and a reinforcing member. The bonding among the fine mica particles and between the fine mica particles and the reinforcing material is effected by the synthetic pulp as melted and solidified.

    Abstract: In the making of an electrical cable, a metal shield is formed by wrapping metal strip around a cable core with longitudinal edges of the strip overlapping. The strip is corrugated with the corrugations nesting in the overlapped regions. A shield gap filler is provided by extruding a heated molten plastics material and directing it between the overlapped regions. Upon cooling, the filler hardens and bonds the edges together. A cable jacket is extruded around the shield.

    Abstract: Methods and apparatus are provided for controlling the quantity and distribution of a waterproofing material (26) on an advancing strip (76) of plastic material which is wrapped subsequently about an advancing cable core (22) to form a core wrap. When the plastic strip is wrapped about the core, which has been filled with the same waterproofing material, the waterproofing material on the strip fills any spaces between the strip and the core, between the strip and an inner metallic shield (31) and a longitudinal overlapped seam of the core wrap. In another cable structure, a controlled amount of waterproofing material is disposed along a longitudinal edge portion of the advancing strip of plastic material to insure a sealed seam when the strip is wrapped about the core.

    Abstract: Apparatus for the dry cross linking of strands of elastomer, in particular in the production of elastic cables and multilayered profiles comprises a string of tubes through which the strand passes. Between adjacent tube sections, there are hollow bodies having central cavities in line with the bore of the tubes and a plurality of branch cavities radiating from the central cavity. One of the branch cavities is connected through a UHF transformer and a wave guide with the UHF generator while tuning probes are arranged in other branch cavities. The UHF transformer has an inwardly diverging tapered opening in which a tapered plug of ceramic or plastic is fitted to provide a pressure seal. The interior of the tube sections and the hollow bodies is supplied with inert gas under pressure.

    Abstract: A fibrous reinforced flexible hose for conveying fluids such as paint under pressure is provided with a composite core tube preferably simultaneously co-extruded from two or more synthetic polymers which are in intimate contact with each other. The inner layer of the composite core tube is nylon or other chemical resistant polymer which may or may not be cross-linked and the outer layer is a cross-linked electrically semi-conductive synthetic polymer layer which serves as a ground for static electricity. In the process of making the hose, the semi-conductive layer is preferably cross-linked by irradiation as a means of improving its higher temperature performance capabilities and to minimize changes in the electrical resistance of the semi-conductive layer that might arise from dynamic use of the hose.
