Patent number: 7399931Abstract: According to various aspects, exemplary embodiments are provided of gaskets that can protect fingerprint readers from receiving electrostatic discharge surges when a user's finger is placed in contact with the electronic scanning portion of the fingerprint reader. In exemplary embodiments, a gasket can provide an electrically-insulative barrier between the exposed contact points on the sides of the fingerprint reader, the electrostatic discharge, and the electrically-conductive side of the gasket. The gasket can also include an electrically-conductive side that provides a relatively short path to ground for the electrostratic discharge.Type: GrantFiled: May 9, 2006Date of Patent: July 15, 2008Assignee: Laird Technologies, Inc.Inventor: Shelby Ball

Patent number: 7390975Abstract: An electromagnetic interference (EMI) gasket for an electronic module comprises a valley feature formed on one side of an EMI gasket and a crown feature formed on the other side of the EMI gasket in order to complement the valley. One or more EMI gaskets are used to construct a shield across the opening of a module cage or rack. Each gasket forms a link in a series of modules, in order to complete a seal across the opening in the cage. A perpendicular pressure forces the module gaskets to center and align evenly as the crown and valley of the opposite features nest together. The modules can be then pressed together and the overlap of the crown and valley acts to center the alignment and create a pressure for satisfactory EMI grounding and the reduction of EMI leakage.Type: GrantFiled: July 25, 2006Date of Patent: June 24, 2008Assignee: LSI CorporationInventors: Terrill Woolsey, Robert Harvey

Patent number: 7326861Abstract: The present invention insulates the source of noise efficiently by forming a thick noise insulating portion to the cover to tightly seal a drive unit which generates heat and noise and at the same time, increases the cooling effect of cooling fins by making the surface areas of the cooling fin ends that are away from the noise insulating portion wide by the amount equivalent to the surface area of the cooling fins decreased by the noise insulating portion provided, and obtains the shielding cover that is excellent in both cooling and noise insulation.Type: GrantFiled: January 19, 2005Date of Patent: February 5, 2008Assignees: Kabushiki Kaisha Toshiba, Toshiba Tec Kabushiki KaishaInventor: Takahiro Kojima

Patent number: 7277300Abstract: A vent grid has parallel first electrically-conductive members and parallel second electrically-conductive members intersecting with the first electrically-conductive members. The intersection between the first and second electrically-conductive members is forced to have a larger cross-sectional area. The characteristic impedance thus increases. The electric current flowing through the first and second electrically-conductive members turns over at the boundary between the intersection and the first and second electrically-conductive members. The flow of the electric current is in this manner interrupted. Accordingly, the vent grid fails to induce electromagnetic wave. Moreover, the electrically-conductive piece is merely located at a corner of the opening. Decrease in the percentage of the opening is thus suppressed to the utmost per a unit area. A sufficient airflow can be established through the vent grid. Decrease in the cooling efficiency and performance can be suppressed.Type: GrantFiled: July 27, 2005Date of Patent: October 2, 2007Assignee: Fujitsu LimitedInventors: Shigeo Sakamoto, Kenji Nagase, Kazuaki Taya
