Patent number: 5616887Abstract: An electrical and mechanical cable connector is constructed for maintaining an electrical grounding circuit in electrical installations on board of an aircraft. For this purpose the connector has two bodies positioned coaxially to each other and rotatable to each other but restrained against relative axial movement by a spring ring. One of the two bodies has a plurality of contact springs formed by cutting axial slots integrally into a portion of the one body. The body with the contact springs rests at least partly in or on the respective support body. Both bodies have a common central axis and contact pressures are effective radially inwardly or radially outwardly relative to the common central axis and are axially distributed along the central axis, whereby both bodies are electrically interconnected to maintain the grounding circuit.Type: GrantFiled: July 21, 1995Date of Patent: April 1, 1997Assignee: Daimler-Benz Aerospace Airbus GmbHInventor: Safa Kirma

Patent number: 5610369Abstract: A cable splicing closure includes a base having ports for the entry of cables to be spliced, and a tubular cover for sliding axially over a peripheral surface of the base. The surface is formed with a groove which tapers towards the end from which the cover is applied and which carries an O-ring seal that is engaged by the cover and which rolls along the tapering surface of the groove as the cover is slid onto the base. The O-ring seal is rolled substantially more than 50 percent, but less than 100 percent, of its peripheral length when it is rolled into its final sealed position. Thus, the O-ring will exert a force in a direction urging the tubular cover more firmly onto the base.Type: GrantFiled: May 3, 1995Date of Patent: March 11, 1997Assignee: Bowthorpe PLCInventor: Raymond C. Patent number: 5408047Abstract: A transition joint for sealing an electrical coaxial cable having an oil-impregnated or fluid filled layer. The transition joint has two primary elements, an electrically insulative elastomeric tube and a heat recoverable sleeve. In connecting a paper-insulated, lead jacketed cable to an extruded dielectric cable, the elastomeric tube is placed in tight conformity around the paper layer, slightly overlapping the lead jacket and the central conductor, and further partially overlapping a connector joining the conductors of the cables. The heat recoverable sleeve is then contracted over the elastomeric tube, overlapping the lead jacket and the central conductor, and partially overlapping the connector. The heat recoverable sleeve mechanically restricts the elastomeric tube, preventing the elastomeric tube from swelling which, in turn, precludes absorption of the oil, which would otherwise cause the elastomer to degrade.Type: GrantFiled: June 1, 1993Date of Patent: April 18, 1995Assignee: Minnesota Mining and Manufacturing CompanyInventor: Carl J. The contacting end faces are heated under continuous compression at a temperature of at least 300.degree. C. but below the solvus temperature of the copper alloy in at least one heating cycle.Type: GrantFiled: November 5, 1993Date of Patent: January 10, 1995Assignee: Fisk Alloy Wire, Inc.Inventors: Brian Fisk, Joseph Winter

Patent number: 5378855Abstract: A device (1) for forming an electrical connection at the end of a bundle of wires (2) comprises an electrically insulating, preferably heat-shrinkable, sleeve (3), a metallic connecting element (4) located within the sleeve, and a quantity of solder (8) for forming a permanent electrical connection between the conductors. The connecting element (4) has a tapering internal surface which has a screw thread so that a temporary electrical connection can be formed by screwing the bundle of wires into the connecting element. Preferably the connecting element is formed by winding a wire, e.g. hard tempered copper wire, into a frusto-conical form. Splices in wire bundles may be made by means of a device in which the connecting element has a pair of internally threaded portions into which different cable bundles can be screwed.Type: GrantFiled: December 21, 1992Date of Patent: January 3, 1995Assignee: Raychem SAInventor: Jacques Delalle

Patent number: 5374784Abstract: A transition joint for sealing an electrical coaxial cable having an oil-impregnated or fluid filled layer. The heat recoverable sleeve mechanically restricts the elastomeric tube, preventing the elastomeric tube from swelling which, in turn, precludes absorption of the oil, which would otherwise cause the elastomer to degrade.Type: GrantFiled: June 1, 1993Date of Patent: December 20, 1994Assignee: Minnesota Mining and Manufacturing CompanyInventor: Carl J. Patent number: 5372295Abstract: A solder material comprises a first solder plate and a second solder plate having a thickness equal to or larger than 1 micron provided at the both surfaces of the first solder plate comprising material having a lower melting point than the first solder or material which reacts with the first solder to produce an alloy having a lower melting point than the first solder.A junctioning method comprises putting the above-described solder material inserted between two objects to be junctioned to each other; heating the solder material to a temperature higher than the melting point of the second solder or the alloy and lower than the melting point of said first solder thereby to melt the second solder or the alloy; and thereafter cooling or keeping the solder material at a temperature in the vicinity of the melting point thereby to junction the objects to be junctioned to each other.Type: GrantFiled: October 1, 1992Date of Patent: December 13, 1994Assignee: Ryoden Semiconductor System Engineering CorporationInventors: Shunichi Abe, Katunori Asai, Yoshihiro Tomita, Hideyuki Ichiyama, Seizou Ohumae, Yoshirou Nishinaka, Katsuyuki Fukutome, Naoto Ueda, Toshio Takeuchi

Patent number: 5371322Abstract: A coupling of severed antenna wires is arranged to include a heat shrink tube having low temperature solder core arranged to secure respective first and second cable antenna wires together, wherein a metallic mesh connecting tube is arranged to electrically interconnect first and second cable mesh shields. An outer tubular insulative tube of flexible construction is arranged to surround the abutting end portions of the first and second antenna cables joined together.Type: GrantFiled: March 15, 1993Date of Patent: December 6, 1994Inventor: Eugene D. Patent number: 5369225Abstract: A wire connector having a conductive barrel with a solder mass disposed in the barrel is formed with wire retaining means to hold the wires in place during heating and melting of the solder to form a permanent connection. A shrinkable sleeve, provided with means of sealing, formed around the barrel and extending beyond the ends of the barrel is also shrunk down onto the wires to seal and insulate the connection and hold the wires.Type: GrantFiled: April 20, 1993Date of Patent: November 29, 1994Assignee: Minnesota Mining and Manufacturing CompanyInventors: Gary S. Patent number: 5365020Abstract: A covering for a joint between electric cables, an element including such covering for forming a covered joint and a joint obtained with such covering. The covering includes two radially elastic sleeves of cross-linked polymeric material, one sleeve being inside and co-axial with the other sleeve. In the unassembled state, the diameter of the bore of the outer sleeve is less than the diameter of the outer surface of the inner sleeve so that when assembled, the outer sleeve exerts radially inward pressure on the inner sleeve. Each sleeve may be formed of one or more tubular layers of polymeric material.Type: GrantFiled: April 12, 1990Date of Patent: November 15, 1994Assignee: Pirelli Cavi S.p.A.Inventors: Ubaldo Vallauri, Bruno Parmigiani, Francesco Portas
