  • Patent number: 5438161
Abstract: An electrical path or interconnection arrangement is provided within a formed support body of polymeric material that exhibits volumetric changes during and after the forming thereof. The electrical path or interconnection arrangement provides an accurately positioned electrically conductive path through the material of the support body and also responds to, accommodates and alleviates the effects of forces at the interface between the material of the support body and the electrical path or interconnection arrangement that occur during and after the forming of the support body. The interconnection arrangement exhibits predetermined deformability/compressibility characteristics to alleviate stresses caused by the volumetric changes of the polymeric material. In a preferred arrangement, the interconnection arrangement includes an elongated tubular conductor fabricated from a metallic material.

  • Patent number: 4800128
Abstract: A liquid-tight lining which is resistant to chemical attack for catch reservoirs, containers or the like of concrete. The lining includes a continuous liquid-tight impervious layer provided above the surface of the concrete. To make possible a simple and safe and repeatable testing of the tightness of the lining, a porous intermediate layer is provided between the concrete and the impervious layer. At least one sensor cable having at least two conductors is placed in the intermediate layer in such a pattern that any location of the intermediate layer is not more than a certain maximum distance away from the cable. The sensor cable is connectible to an electrical monitoring unit.

Abstract: This disclosure relates to a floor construction comprising a concrete slab which is supported adjacent its edges of the slab. A plurality of cellular raceways are embedded in the slab, and at least one intermittently bottomless trench runs across the raceways. The trench is located along a line where the bending moment on the slab is substantially zero. The construction further comprises a plurality of post-tensioned tendons which extend across the slab, underneath the trench and between the raceways.

  • Patent number: 4596443
Abstract: A glass-fibre cable has been provided with a signalling conductor for signalling liquid which has penetrated into the cable sheath. The signalling conductor is a glass fibre, which is inserted in a protective perforated sheath in the usual way. The inner periphery of this sheath is provided with a wave-shaped pattern on one side, whereas the opposite side is provided with a layer of swelling powder. As soon as the liquid which has entered the cable, reaches the swelling powder, the volume of this swelling powder will considerably increase, in consequence of which the glass fibre will be pressed against the wave-shaped pattern. This causes microbending which involves a strong, measurable attenuation of the light signal transmitted through the glass fibre. The swelling powder can be applied to a substrate.

Abstract: A wiring distribution system for fill-on-slab or fill-on-grade floor constructions, including an uninterrupted main unit providing main passageways and at least one laterally extending feeder unit providing feeder passageways supported on a substructure (-slab or -grade). A housing having a removable cover encloses a full-width segment of the main unit and an end segment of the feeder unit. A covering layer of concrete (fill-) surrounds the housing. A partition divides the interior of the enclosure into two compartments, a first communicating with one feeder passageway and a second communicating with the other feeder passageways. The main unit presents at least one common lengthwise trough extending through and beyond the opposite sides of the enclosure. First and second capping means enclose those portions of the common lengthwise trough on opposite sides of the enclosure to provide substantially unobstructed additional main passageways communicating with the second compartment.

The cylinder is positioned so that its projection on the raceway cover is larger than and covers one of the knockouts. The piston is capable of limited axial movement within the cylinder, and has an end in substantial contact with one of the knockouts. The piston end is of such size and shape that, when driven toward the knockout, the piston will drive the knockout into the raceway and enter the knockout opening.
