The flexible rubber insert prevents scratching of the surface of the aluminum conductor and the production of aluminum particles during relative movement between the insulator and the aluminum tube.

    Abstract: Isolated phase bus duct includes apparatus for adjustably attaching an insulator to the inner surface of a disconnecting switch enclosure to accommodate positional and angular tolerances. The apparatus includes a base member tangential to the surface of the enclosure having a first circular aperture with angled sidewalls. A first circular positioning plate having an angled outer sidewall is seated in the first aperture and includes a second circular aperture non-concentric with the first plate. The second aperture also includes angled side walls and has mounted therein a second circular positioning plate. The second plate has a third circular aperture therein which has angled sidewalls and is non-concentric with the second plate. Seated in the third aperture is a ball plate adapted to be bolted to an insulator.

    Abstract: A gas-insulated transmission line includes a cylindrical outer sheath, an inner conductor within the outer sheath, an insulating gas, and support insulators for insulatably supporting the inner conductor within the outer sheath. The support insulators have a pair of circumferentially spaced apart openings therein, and a wheel assembly is disposed within each of the support insulator openings. Each wheel assembly includes a rotatable wheel which extends outwardly of the support insulator opening and contacts the outer sheath. With such an arrangement, insertion or movement of the inner conductor within the outer sheath is done on wheels instead of with a sliding motion to thereby minimize the generation of conducting contamination particles.

The supporting insulator is connected by a slide bearing member to the enclosing pipe.     Abstract: This invention relates to an assembly for supporting high-current bus bars, particularly those in tubular enclosures, and it solves the problem of design, as well as assembly and disassembly, of the supporting insulators of high-current bus bars. Each insulator of a high-current bus bar, particularly that in a tubular enclosure supporting the bus bar, is fastened to a bracket mounted to the opposite inner sides of the flange of an assembly-inspection hole, preferably of an oval shape, whereas two holes on both sides of the bracket form assembly-inspection spaces for the insulator and the insulator cap covered, together with the bracket, by means of a lid. Moreover, in order to make possible a slidable motion of the insulator, to which the bracket has been mounted, a special shock-absorbing member has been introduced between the cover and the bracket.

A carrier ring encircles the conductor at each of a plurality of stations along a longitudinal axis of the pipe jacket. Each carrier ring carries a plurality of radially directed insulators. Interposed between each insulator and its respective carrier ring is a spring which urges the insulator radially outwardly toward, and into engagement with, the inner surface of the pipe jacket.

    Abstract: A bus conductor support system includes a tubular bus conductor removably mounted on an insulator assembly in a hollow conductive tubular enclosure. The tubular enclosure is secured to a mounting platform. Access openings are provided in the tubular enclosure for servicing purposes. One end of the insulator assembly is removably secured to the hollow tubular enclosure in a manner which allows easy access thereto through an access opening in the tubular enclosure. The bus conductor is removably mounted on an opposing end of the insulator assembly in a manner which also allows easy access thereto through the same access opening in the tubular enclosure. In one embodiment, a single side access opening in the tubular enclosure is in proximate relation to securing means for the insulator assembly and mounting means for the bus conductor.

    Abstract: In environments utilizing highly explosive or flammable materials and in hospital operating rooms, the use of isolated power and an equipotential grounding system is essential. The distribution of isolated power and an equipotential ground on the surface areas of such enivornments is accomplished by a duct which is essentially an extruded aluminum channel that fastens to the wall with mounting screws. The channel has a main body portion and a cover plate that snap fits to the body portion. The channel is adapted to be utilized in sections, each section being readily attachable to another section. A ground bus bar is carried in the channel to which all ground leads are directly connected. In an alternate embodiment, the duct is adaptable to effectively provide two separate channels by the insertion of a partition which is held in place by holding fingers.

The contamination control device comprises an elongated metallic member having a generally curved cross-section in a first plane perpendicular to the axis of the bus and having an arcuate cross-section in a second plane lying along the axis of the bus. Each opposed end of the metallic member and its opposing sides are tapered to form a pair of generally converging and downward sloping surfaces to trap randomly moving conductive particles in the relatively field-free region between the metallic member and the interior surface of the grounded outer shell.

Barrier sheets secured to the front and back of the panels shield personnel from live parts.     Abstract: A rail construction for rail-type electrification systems, comprising a conducting rail member having a cross-sectional configuration somewhat like a pair of channel shapes disposed back to back. One channel shape is used for suspension or mounting, as well as rigidity. The other channel shape contains a stainless steel insert in the form of a flat contact member which is secured in place by being pinched between opposed wall areas of flanges of the rail member, in consequence of the flanges being swaged or displaced beyond their elastic limit to effect a gripping of the contact member. The inner walls of the flanges, which adjoin the elongate contact member, constitute metal guideways that assure a positive tracking of the collector shoe. Any small relative movements between the conducting rail member and the stainless steel insert, as occasioned by temperature changes for example, cannot result in loosening of the insert or deterioration of the electrical conductance thereto.

    Abstract: An elongated section of bus duct having U-shaped insulating pieces surrounding the longitudinally extending edges of the stacked bus bars and a flat insulating sheet of a material which does not adhere to the U-shaped insulating pieces disposed between the bus bars. The flat insulating sheets can also be disposed between the housing and the outside stacked bus bars which are compressed by the housing. The non self-adhering U-shaped pieces and the flat insulating sheets permit the insulated bus bars to slide with respect to each other due to differentials in expansion and contraction of the bus bars. The sliding action, of the U-shaped insulating pieces and the flat insulating sheet, prevents rupture of the primary insulation layer which is applied to the bus bars and which is self-adhering at operating temperatures and pressures.
