  • Patent number: 6222137
Abstract: A portable scale for weighing drums, cylinders and other containers is describe. The scale is lightweight and easily transportable and due to the use of three load cells instead of the traditional four, it is highly accurate even on uneven floor surfaces. The weighing platform is low to the ground and has a loading ramp making placement of objects to be weighed easier.

  • Patent number: 6148668
Abstract: An apparatus for indicating the amount of fuel in a fuel tank for a barbecue grill is disclosed. The apparatus includes a first housing member having indicator marks on an indicator wall thereof, a second housing member slidably engaging the first housing member and further securing the fuel tank, and a spring member connected to the first and second housing members to provide a resistive force to oppose the downward movement force of the fuel tank. The second housing member has a gauge wall with openings such that the gauge wall at least partially overlies the indicator wall of the first housing member to progressively expose indicator marks through the openings. The exposed indicator marks provide a readout of the amount of fuel remaining in the fuel tank.

  • Patent number: 6124554
Abstract: A portable platform-scale weighing system comprises a floor dolly and lift mechanism that allow a heavy low-profile platform scale to be used practically anywhere truck cargoes need to be weighed. The low-profile platform scale includes a shear-beam load cell on each of four corners that are lifted off the ground by the lift mechanism whenever the dolly is being rolled to a new job. The weighing system puts weight on each of the shear-beam load cells only when the lift system has lowered the low-profile platform scale onto a protective outrigger runner on each side and such runners are resting on the ground. Such runners have turned up steel wings that prevent side impacts to the shear-beam load cells. Various guides and pins keep the low-profile platform scale centered over the floor dolly and lift mechanism so that when it is lowered it will drop properly on the two outrigger runners and minimize contact between the lift mechanism and dolly during the weight mode.

  • Patent number: 6119475
Abstract: A lift assembly which is coupled to a refrigerant service cart to raise and lock the supply tank of refrigerant off of a weight sensor, locking the tank in a raised position for transportation of the portable servicing cart. In a preferred embodiment, a fixed arm extends from the portable cart and is positioned at a location above the refrigerant tank. A movable connecting link extends from the arm and is coupled to the tank and is controlled by an over-center toggle with a control handle for raising and lowering the tank coupled to the link between a use position resting on the weight sensor and a transporting position engaging the fixed arm and locked thereto by the over-center toggle control.

  • Patent number: 5739478
Abstract: A scale for weighing a load, which is made up of a base (12), a weighing platform (34) for supporting the load and a load cell (36, 98) located below the weighing platform so as to alternate between an operational position, in which the weighing platform is supported by the load cell for measuring the weight of the load, and a neutral position, in which the weighing platform is supported by the base member for carrying the load. The scale further includes a contact member (40, 48, 116) located below the weighing platform (34) so as to reversibly come into contact with the load cell so that the load cell alternates between the operational position and the neutral position due to a relative movement between the load cell and the contact member. The scale further includes a mechanism (26, 52, 96, 110) for generating the relative movement.

  • Patent number: 4033420
Abstract: This scale is primarily intended for the weighing of a hospital bed containing a patient. It may weigh an empty bed or any wheeled load. The scale is mounted on a frame which rests on the floor during a weighing operation, and is lifted off the floor onto a set of casters for moving the scale from one location to another. A detachable handle is provided for pulling the scale on its casters. The scale frame is oblong. The bed being weighed is supported on two channel-shaped rails, which are upwardly open. A pair of upwardly open, channel-shaped ramps are provided for rolling a bed onto the weighing rails from either side of the scale. The rails are provided with retractable blocking bars at both ends to prevent a bed from accidentally rolling off the rail. The ramps are removable. Provision is made for mounting the ramps on the scale during movement of the scale from one location to another.
