  • Patent number: 8978181
Abstract: An examination table including an integrated scale with automatic taring, weight capture in the presence of patient motion, and automatic table height adjustment. The examination table includes a controller that periodically tares the integrated scale when a patient is not on the table so that the scale is ready to measure the weight of a patient without manual taring by the table operator. When a patient is on the table, the controller detects the presence of patient motion based on signals from load sensors, and captures weights for patients experiencing uncontrolled motion or tremors by averaging and comparing sampled weight values over predetermined periods of time. To insure that the patient is fully supported by the examination table before weighing the patient, the controller automatically adjusts the height of the examination table support surface so that the patient's feet are not touching the floor prior to weighing the patient.

Abstract: A refuse container provides an indication of the weight of the refuse stored therein to a refuse collector to indicate whether the weight is safe to handle or requires extra caution. The refuse container includes a body into which one or more springs is places. A platform is placed on the one or more springs. A weight indicator is attached to the platform. The weight indicator has marking to distinguish a plurality of weight indicator regions. A window allows the weight indicator to be seen. As the platform moves up and down in response to the weight of the refuse thereon, certain of the weight indicator regions of the weight indicator will be viewable in the window to thereby indicate how safe the refuse in the refuse container is to handle or whether additional refuse can be added to the refuse container.

Abstract: A scanning table is provided to measure a patient's weight accurately. The scanning table may include a table body, for supporting a human body; a lifting system, for driving the table body to go up and down; and a force-measuring component connected with the lifting system, for measuring a support force which is imposed on the table body by the lifting system. Because the support force to the table body by the lifting system is related to positions of a patient and the table body. When the lifting system is connected with the force-measuring component, a force measured by the force-measuring component can reflect the patient's weight accurately and truly. The force-measuring component can measure a change of the support force, which is combined with related data of the table body to obtain the patient's weight. Therefore, the measurement accuracy can be improved.

Abstract: Patient support systems are generally disclosed. An example patient support system may be configured to provide a predictive bed-exit alarm and/or a patient weight. An example embodiment may include a support structure including independently inflatable supports, an inflatable mat beneath the inflatable supports, and pressure detectors associated with the inflatable supports and the inflatable mat. An alarm logic may be configured to initiate a predictive bed-exit alarm sequence upon determining that at least one of the pressures of the inflatable supports is at about its respective unloaded pressure. A patient weight logic may be configured to output a patient weight based at least partially upon a difference between an unloaded pressure and a loaded pressure of the inflatable mat.
