Abstract: Described herein is electroadhesion technology that permits controllable adherence between two objects. Electroadhesion uses electrostatic forces of attraction produced by an electrostatic adhesion voltage, which is applied using electrodes in an electroadhesive device. The electrostatic adhesion voltage produces an electric field and electrostatic adherence forces. When the electroadhesive device and electrodes are positioned near a surface of an object such as a vertical wall, the electrostatic adherence forces hold the electroadhesive device in position relative to the surface and object. This can be used to increase traction or maintain the position of the electroadhesive device relative to a surface. Electric control of the electrostatic adhesion voltage permits the adhesion to be controllably and readily turned on and off.

The track is therefore kept substantially straight between the rollers so increase the efficiency associated with transferring power to track. The drive sprocket is positioned above the ground so as to eliminate complexity in the design and yet effectively transmit power to the tracks. Positioning the drive sprocket above ground also prevents derailing of the track. The track is also held in a constant state of tension on the driver sprocket and the roller. This too prevents derailment. The undercarriage of the vehicle includes torsion axles and sealed bearings to provide for a lower maintenance track. Components associated with the undercarriage do not require constant greasing and cleaning of the idler wheels.

  • Patent number: 4534431
Abstract: A supporting feeder assembly for material handling machines primarily for use on soft ground when the material handling machine fastens. The feeder assembly comprises an elongate beam unit secured to the implement mount of the material handling machine disposed at the front of said machine. A carriage can move along the beam unit either by rolling freely or by positive displacement and supports a carrier assembly. If the front wheels of the material handling machine fasten the driver can raise them from the ground by lowering the implement mount and can drive the machine forward by means of the larger rear wheels or with the aid of an implement disposed at the rear of the machine, for example a digging bucket, as the carrier assembly engages the ground and the material handling machine moves forward in consequence of the beam unit running on the carriage.

  • Patent number: 4380135
Abstract: A four wheel drive toy includes a drive mechanism and two pairs of elongated movable track portions mounted on a frame, each pair of track portions including a follower gear driven through an independent gear train from the drive mechanism. An interior surface of each track portion includes an oval endless rack gear engaged by the gear follower. The orbit of the gear follower around the rack gear is made visible from the exterior of the vehicle by using flanges attached to either side of the follower gear to retain the follower gear within the interior of the track portion. The track portion pivots about the axis of the follower gear when the follower gear reaches the arcuate region of the oval rack gear.
