  • Patent number: 8083024
Abstract: A speaker enclosure having a substantially seamless rigid outer skin, a middle sound absorbing layer, and a substantially seamless inner skin results in a lightweight speaker having sound absorbing characteristics. The speaker enclosure is comprised of two basic parts, a box section and a baffle section where each of these sections include a rigid outer skin, the middle sound absorbing layer and a seamless inner skin and are made according to the same method. The outer skin is formed from a layer of sheet molding compound, the middle sound absorbing layer includes pieces of honeycomb material, and the inner skin is formed from a layer of sheet molding compound. The layers of material are placed into a mold and then cured through vacuum bagging and heating thereby producing a strong, lightweight speaker enclosure made of materials which attenuate the transmission and retransmission of errant sound waves in the enclosure thereby reducing distortion of the sound signal produced by the speaker.

  • Patent number: 8014545
Abstract: A loudspeaker system includes an enclosure having an open end defining a plane, a baffle, a loudspeaker operating in the 4 kHz to 10 kHz range, and a device, preferably a ribbed portion having a plurality of grooves, coupled to the baffle for modifying the spectral profile of the projected sound waves. The baffle includes first and second angled surfaces each oriented at an oblique angle with respect to the plane. The speaker is coupled to the first angled surface and the ribbed portion is coupled to the baffle along the intersection of the first angled surface and the second angled surface. When mounted in a wall or ceiling, the system projects a sound field substantially indistinguishable from that of a loudspeaker located within the listener's listening plane. The baffle can also have acoustic damping material attached thereto, with grooves formed therein, to prevent reflections of 4 kHz to 10 kHz sound.

Abstract: A long and narrow loudspeaker on an entire wall gives off a cylindrical wave, which covers the entire room. Extra loudspeakers fixed at an angle against the wall will be heard in another direction, producing angle stereo independent of where one is in the room. Electro-dynamic loudspeakers are made of long plates of iron with air gapes between them where magnetic fields are produced. In the air gaps are strips, which conduct the sound currents. The strips influence directly one or more membranes. The magnetic field can be produced by permanent magnets, electromagnets or through concentration of geomagnetic fields. Long loudspeakers, which use other forces such as electrostatic forces, only need to be made for small sound pressure at the membrane.

  • Publication number: 20100212996
Abstract: Normally a speaker is used by attaching to a sealed or semi-sealed cabinet so that vibration generated at the front and the back of a diaphragm does not mutually interfere. Therefore, a certain depth and a volume are necessary, and in a limited location such as a front panel of a device, there is a case that it cannot be attached to the most suitable position for a listener. As a means to solve that, a method that a speaker sound at a distant position is led to a front panel by a waveguide is practically used. However, still it has limitations in depth and attaching position, and good results cannot be obtained also in efficiency. A speaker is attached so that a sound generated at the front of the speaker attached to a cabinet is led to a plane such as a front panel of a device by a waveguide, and the opening surface of the waveguide is almost perpendicular to the plane.

Abstract: A method and system (50) for inducing multi-frequency vibrations in a vibration propagating structure, for example a seat (52), is disclosed. The system is comprised of an acoustic vibration transducer unit (12) mounted on a relatively flat and rigid surface (54?) such that the direction of movement of an actuating element in the unit is parallel to the surface. When the unit is driven by an amplified low frequency audio signal a person sitting in the seat experiences vibrations. Additionally, a series of vibration propagating structures, for example a row of seats at a movie theatre, can be connected in series via vibration-propagating members (60) between adjacent seats thereby allowing a single acoustic vibration transducer unit to propagate vibrations to all connected seats.

Abstract: Vehicle electrical and electronic components are formed of a conductive loaded resin-based material. The conductive loaded resin-based material comprises micron conductive powder(s), conductive fiber(s), or a combination of conductive powder and conductive fibers in a base resin host. The percentage by weight of the conductive powder(s), conductive fiber(s), or a combination thereof is between about 20% and 50% of the weight of the conductive loaded resin-based material. The micron conductive powders are metals or conductive non-metals or metal plated non-metals. The micron conductive fibers may be metal fiber or metal plated fiber. Further, the metal plated fiber may be formed by plating metal onto a metal fiber or by plating metal onto a non-metal fiber. Any platable fiber may be used as the core for a non-metal fiber. Superconductor metals may also be used as micron conductive fibers and/or as metal plating onto fibers in the present invention.

Abstract: The speaker member includes: a base material; and a resin film layer laminated on the base material through an adhesive layer. The adhesive layer has a heat shrinkage ratio of 0.5 to 1.0%; the resin film layer has a heat shrinkage ratio of 0.8 to 1.3%; and the heat shrinkage ratio of the adhesive layer is smaller than the heat shrinkage ratio of the resin film layer. The method of manufacturing a speaker comprises the steps of: applying a predetermined resin composition on a release material; drying the resin composition, so as to form a resin film layer on the release material; applying a predetermined adhesive on the resin film layer, so as to form an adhesive layer; attaching together the resin film layer formed on the release material and a base material through the adhesive layer, so as to form a laminate; subjecting the laminate to aging; and molding the laminate subjected to aging by using a metal mold having a predetermined shape.

  • Patent number: 7661508
