  • Patent number: 11713700
Abstract: An exhaust pulse balance chamber comprising a circular collar, mid-section that bulges at its center, skirt, and right and left legs, all of which are sealed to the exterior environment and in fluid communication with one another. The outer diameter of the skirt increases in width but not in depth from the proximal end of the skirt to the distal end of the skirt, which is configured to receive the right and left legs. Each leg is bent at a 30-degree angle relative to the central longitudinal axis of the exhaust pulse balance chamber. The invention includes a method of using the exhaust pulse balance chamber to convert a vehicle from a dual-in, single-out exhaust system to a dual-in, dual-out exhaust system.

  • Patent number: 11492937
Abstract: A multi-mode muffler for an exhaust system of an internal combustion engine provides a rotary plate that modulates exhaust gas flow between a first and second flow path. Each flow path may provide different sound dampening characteristics, thereby providing different sound profiles with the same muffler. In a disclosed embodiment, the rotary plate is driven by a shaft coupled to an external actuator. Also, a third possible position of the rotary plate may allow flow through both the first and second flow paths, thereby providing a third possible noise profile. One of the sound profiles may be louder than the other thereby allowing the muffler to switch between “loud” and “quiet” modes of operation.

Abstract: A muffler for an internal combustion engine exhaust system includes a housing having an inlet and outlet headers enclosing opposite ends of an outer shell. A partition divides a housing interior into first and second chambers, the first chamber having sound absorbing material positioned therein. The partition has an aperture allowing fluid communication between the first and second chambers. A through pipe extends through the inlet and outlet headers and the partition and has a plurality of perforations enabling fluid communication between the through pipe and the first chamber. A valve assembly has a valve flap positioned inside the through pipe for rotation with an axle pivotally coupled to the pipe between a closed position and an open position. The valve is positioned downstream of the pipe perforations such that all of an exhaust gas flowing through the muffler passes through the valve regardless of the valve flap position.

Abstract: A variable muffler corresponds to a muffler of an internal combustion engine including a variable valve that controls the flow of exhaust gas. The variable muffler includes a muffler body forming a muffler chamber, an inlet pipe with an opening at the muffler chamber to direct the flow of exhaust gas from the opening towards the muffler chamber, and a muffler-in pipe arranged in the muffler chamber. The muffler-in pipe includes an opening facing the opening at the muffler chamber, and into which the exhaust gas output from the opening flows in a predetermined direction. The muffler-in pipe further includes a slope inclining vertically downwards towards the opening, and extending in a direction different from the predetermined direction. By such a configuration, a muffler of an internal combustion engine having proper driving of the valve ensured can be provided.
