  • Patent number: 5810115
Abstract: In a series progressive divider valve having a number of identical valve units disposed adjacent to each other, each formed by a base member and a spool member having a movable spool therein, a manifold in the form of a plate which can be inserted between the base member and the spool member of a valve unit which modifies the flow of lubricant in the event one of the output ports becomes blocked or restricted. In the event such a blockage or restriction occurs, a relief valve disposed in the manifold plate is opened which establishes communication between two normally non-communicating bores which results in the re-routing of the lubricant to the succeeding valve unit. The manifold permits the overall output/lubricant delivery configuration of the divider valve to be continued in the event of such a blockage or restriction.

  • Patent number: 5583441
Abstract: A chip detector is an open circuit device that attract metal chips circulating throughout a piece of equipment such as a transmission. If a chip closes the circuit in the chip detector, then it is subjected to a first pulse of energy in an attempt to burn or displace it from the chip detector contacts. The energy content of the first pulse is selected to burn fuzz, which represents chips of an acceptable size. If the chip remains in the chip detector, then it is subjected to one or more additional pulses each having a greater energy content than the first pulse. The number of pulses and their energy contents are recorded to determine the size of the chips captured by the chip detector and to provide a history of the equipment being monitored. If the chip in the chip detector exceeds a predetermined threshold, then an indication is given on a user interface.

  • Patent number: 5522474
Abstract: A system and method for extracting used transmission fluid from an automatic transmission in a motor vehicle utilizing the vehicle engine. A reservoir is provided having a free floating piston therein, dividing the reservoir into two chambers. The second chamber is initially filled with fresh fluid forcing the piston toward the first chamber. Operation of the vehicle engine causes the transmission pump to pump used fluid into the first chamber, forcing the piston to expell fresh fluid from the second chamber, and into the cooler and transmission. A sight gauge in the first flexible line permits visual monitoring of the flow of dark, used fluid to determine when all of the fluid in the transmission has been ejected, collected in the first chamber for disposal, and completely replaced with fresh fluid.

  • Patent number: 5257539
Abstract: An electronic oil level indicator is provided to show the amount of oil in an oil pan of an internal combustion engine which consists of a perforated housing positioned in the oil pan, so that the oil in the oil pan will enter the housing. A mechanism is connected to the housing for producing light. A fiber optic bundle has a first end connected to the housing spaced away from the light producing mechanism within the oil. A display panel is remotely located from the housing with a second end of the fiber optic bundle connected thereto. The height level of the oil will control the amount of illumination from the light producing mechanism reaching the fiber optic bundle which in turn is carried to the display panel to allow a person to visually check the oil level on the display panel.

Abstract: A pressure fluid actuated lubricator having a housing (46), a pressure fluid channel (43, 42, 21) leading from an inlet opening (2) to an outlet opening (7), a reservoir (44) for a lubricant and a discharge device (19) for the lubricant. The reservoir (44) is arranged to be movable by being acted on by the pressure fluid and transfers the pressure force to the lubricant and the discharge device (19). The reservoir is sealed against the penetration of pressure fluid and decreases in effective volume in proportion to the discharged amount of lubricant.

  • Patent number: 5219041
Abstract: A pressure sensor, such as the type of sensor used in screw-type refrigeration compressors, permits sensing of positive as well as negative pressures and provides an indication of the direction in which the compressor is rotating. Negative pressure leads to system shut-down, while positive pressure verification will allow compressor operation to continue. The pressure sensor includes a pair of adjustable tension springs, on opposite sides of the diaphragm, to vary the position of the diaphragm within its mechanical stroke. By establishing a pressure range of interest, and by employing an electrical sensor, such as a Hall effect sensor, the direction of movement of the diaphragm and sensor can be monitored immediately upon compressor start-up.

  • Patent number: 5195612
Abstract: A lubrication system for a cotton harvester having a plurality of harvesting units. The lubrication system comprises a lubricant source for providing pressurized lubricant to each of the harvesting units to facilitate their operation and a control mechanism for measuring cyclic operations of harvesting units operating components during a harvesting procedure. The control mechanism controls operation of the lubricant source such that the amounts of lubricant provided to the harvesting units during a lubrication cycle is correlated to the lubricant usage of the harvesting units during the harvesting procedure. A salient feature of the present invention relates to a display for visually indicating the cyclic operations remaining for the harvesting units before another lubrication cycle is due to be commenced. The display furthermore provides a visual indication relating to the operating performance of the lubrication system.

  • Patent number: 5182720
Abstract: An apparatus for controlling and monitoring a lubricating system having analog sensors and switches indicating the status of the lubricating system. An analog-to-digital converter is responsive to the analog sensors and switches and provides a plurality of digital sensing signals representative of the status of the lubricating system. A provided memory includes a nonvolatile memory for storing instructions. By using a keypad, an operator selects and inputs parameters into the nonvolatile memory. A microprocessor processes the digital sensing signals in accordance with the parameters stored in the nonvolatile memory. Relays are responsive to the microprocessor and initiate lubrication of the lubricating system. A display, responsive to the microprocessor, indicates the status of the lubricating system.

Abstract: A closed lubrication system for use in bearing housings subject to a range of temperatures which isolates the air and lubricant within the bearing housing from potential contamination arising from exposure to ambient air. The invention includes a liquid-displacement expansion chamber assembly which is responsive to temperature changes in the bearing housing to accommodate volumetric expansion and contraction of supply air. A constant level lubricator is provided to maintain the quantity of lubricant at a constant sump level. A lubricant circulation assembly, including a lubricant filter, a lubricant cooler, a lubricant pump, and a sight gauge is also provided. The lubricant circulation assembly and the constant level oiler may form part of the self-contained, integral unit adapted to be selectively connected to the bearing housing. The lubricant pump may be a gear pump.

  • Patent number: 5126722
Abstract: A piston-type point of lubrication magnetic flow indicator providing a barrel interfit with a bushing having a cylinder portion penetrating the barrel coaxially and a magnetic piston which reciprocates closely interfit inside the cylinder portion of the bushing. Lube oil enters an inlet port of the bushing, flows through a check valve into the cylinder portion, and impinges on one end of the magnetic piston. The impinging causes the magnetic piston to move in the cylinder portion uncovering at least one port formed through the cylinder portion which opens the cylinder portion to the barrel, directing flow thereto. The lubricating oil flows through the barrel and out of an aperture formed at a forward end of the barrel to a lubrication point. Movement of the magnetic piston through the cylinder portion triggers a magnetic reed switch mounted on an outside circumference of the barrel and generally overlying the relative axial position of the piston in the cylinder portion.
